this cracked me up

Sara, one of my bloggers, sent me this suggestion for my booster seat dilemma. It made me LOL. It’s from a store I had never heard of, Red rover kids. Thanks to everybody for the tips. I swear, when you are a first time parent you just have no idea how long a phase is…

I’m glad you got a good laugh πŸ™‚ I can’t believe you linked my page on your blog. I feel famous! Haha.

anybody care to help?

Miles is in that in-between a highchair and sitting in the chair. He sits just fine, as you can see, but there’s still plenty of wobbling, almost tipping, standing on the chair (Oh, that one is the worst!) and then there is the awesome lay on the table to grab for our food. I know…

we use a booster for Zeke who is going on 19 months. He’s decided he’s a big boy and not a baby on a high chair anymore. Guess that’s what happens when you have older siblings to watch. Anyhow, our booster sits on a bench, so it’s not very tippy. For a chair I would suggest a booster that straps to the chair. And maybe even one that has a strap for him to! We totally have the baby crawling up ONTO the table to reach something going on here too. He’s also pretty good at scooting down to his sister or brother and helping himself to whatever looks good on their plates too. It’s like a little animal at the dinner table. Food flinging & flying, sometimes with utensils and sometimes with hands. Good luck!

We LOVE our booster seat for Emma! She does wonderfully in it! It will still be a while before she’s made the full transition, but this booster has definitely helped! http://tinyurl.com/amgpql

I’m not a mom, so I can’t really help with the booster suggestions… but when you said that John wants to use a phonebook it reminded me of this: http://www.redrover-kids.com/phnbkbst.html πŸ™‚

Our son is two and four months (SO hard to let go of using the months in there – he’s growing too fast!!) and we got a Kaboost for x-mas from a thoughtful relative: http://www.kaboost.com/ I was pretty skeptical about it, but we stuck it on the bottom of a large chair (so he has plenty of movement room to avoid “the launch” and it’s working great. I think part of the benefit may be that he can rest his arms on the table now…

I’m so sorry you lost your nap!!! We’re debating switching Murphy up to a toddler bed, and I know that will be the end of our “era” and that kills me.

    Good luck!

We used a tie on, portable, fold up booster for Jammer for a bit and somewhat for Ellie. We have a smaller table/chairs that we used for the kids at home.

Tell you the truth, what worked best of us was letting the kids sit on their knees until they were old enough to sit properly. Reason being, is that the kids would tip over booster seats in a booth at a restaurant because they still sat too far away from the table for their short arms. They’re not that stable on curved surfaces.

Stella has been in a booster for months. She retired the high chair on her own. We have a very simple, non-fancy, Fischer Price booster than straps to the seat. She stays in her seat throughout the meal b/c she know that if she gets up, she’s done. I like the booster b/c it has two different sizes…one high and if you flip it over, a bit lower (that’s the side she uses now). The back can also be removed. We’ve been very happy with it. Here’s one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/FISHER-PRICE-2-in-1-Booster-Chair-Toddler-Seat-PortableW0QQitemZ290290351586QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFeeding?hash=item290290351586&trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

won’t the chair that sits on the floor with the tray work, without the tray? Grandma

  • JenJanuary 24, 2009 - 10:38 pm

Bets – We got Evan this soft booster seat from One Step Ahead (link at the end). For the most part he liked it but now he prefers to sit on the chair itself w/o the booster seat. It doesn’t slide around and is soft so it didn’t ruin our wooden chairs. Good luck!http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=534471&parentCategoryId=85181&categoryId=85205

we totally used a phone book… the yellow pages to be exact- that was for about two years and then…Noah just didn’t want booster…chin up to the table and everything…like you..doggies come in handy and we got a happy camper who is …”like you mommy and daddy”-

  • mikeJanuary 26, 2009 - 3:55 pm

we have a booster that has a seat belt. Mine actually liked strapping himself in for a little while. We called it a seat belt. We used it for a number of years, he is now too big for it. Next time you come over, we can see if your little one likes it.

defrosting a bit

If you live in Indiana you know we enjoyed a nice heat wave of 33 degrees today. We heard a loud BOOM today and no worries, it was just the mega huge sheet of ice defrosting and sliding off our sky lights and crashing to the ground. After perusing my blog stats, I noticed that…

  • Amy in California =)January 23, 2009 - 7:40 am

Hey there from Sunny CA! Actually we are back to rain here in Northern Cali . Boo-hoo, but we need it. We had temps above 70 for a week so I can’t complain. Okay, I’ll shut up already.

Annnnnnnnd, did you know I have an April Fool’s Day baby???? My middle child, my son Dane who will be 5 this coming April 1st! The best part is he totally lives up to his b-day. I went into labor with my first contraction at 1:09am, and after a mad rush barely making it to the hospital, he was born at 3:07am! Talk about a trick! And he is my little jokester to this day.

I’m pretty sure my sister (another californian) follows your blog too, but she’s a non-commenter. Let’s see if we can draw her out of lurkdom……Oh Kathryn…….come out, come out, wherever you are!????

  • JennaUJanuary 23, 2009 - 12:53 pm

Betsy, welcome back! I’ve missed your blogging! My birthday is 10/29 and was often thrown in with Halloween celebrations. Most of my cakes were Halloween or harvest related. I have good memories πŸ™‚ Stay warm!

  • AprilJanuary 23, 2009 - 12:55 pm

That’s funny your b-day is on April fools day because I’m also a April fools baby! At least your mom didn’t name you April, though my mom swears she had the name picked out way ahead of time. ;o) I am going to have to check out Kindermusik. Not sure if they have classes here in Indy but I know my son would love them!

    Stay warm!

  • GailJanuary 23, 2009 - 1:46 pm

Ahhh….SO glad you guys finally caught the Werewolf Barmitzvah episode!! Oh man..aren’t you so glad 30 Rock is in your lives? πŸ™‚

And I’m a February birthday girl myself so bring on the second month of the year, I say!!!!

  • annieJanuary 23, 2009 - 1:47 pm

love the clip -30 rock is hilarious and totally lives up to all the awards it gets. for the record i believe there are kindermusik classes in Indy. Miles looks like he is doing some deep thinking – the hat is too cute. i’m not in sunny cali, but it was nice to hit forty yesterday!

  • CassieJanuary 23, 2009 - 4:06 pm

Yaaay, you’re back! I just love checking your blog everyday; it’s like I still have friends πŸ™‚ We are supposed to get up to 35 today in Chicago…hooray! It was so cold last weekend Jason and I didn’t leave our apartment all weekend. Hugs to you guys!

  • CaitlynJanuary 24, 2009 - 12:11 am

Hello from a serial lurker! I first saw your blog via Diaperpin.com and have been checking it regularly since for the awesome photography! We are up in a similarly cold place- Maine- and I think your cold snap is headed our way this weekend. Thanks! Oh, and if you want a Halloween baby, wouldn’t this be a good time to start trying?? (Wink, wink!)

  • heidiJanuary 24, 2009 - 1:45 am

well…. now i don’t feel so special .. πŸ™ …waaaa glad to see you back to yourself…maybe soon I will too-

  • redJanuary 24, 2009 - 3:17 am

I’m right there with you on the cold, brrr! My son’s birthday lands on Friday the 13th this year, that’ll be fun when he’s a teenager i’m sure! Mine lands on Victoria’s Day every 7th year, which is awesome since up here Victoria’s Day means fireworks. Nothing like fireworks for your birthday! My daughter’s right in Prime Easter time, i’m sure she’ll enjoy all the chocolate in years to come. YAY for holiday birthdays!

  • kathrynJanuary 26, 2009 - 5:00 am

Coming out of lurkdom. Yes, another Californian, Amy T’s sister. I love looking at all your beautiful photos of clients and of course Miles! If you ever come to California you could earn some $$ in photo shoots with us (and probably Amy too!). I am not an accountant, but perhaps the whole trip could be written off on your taxes as a business expense? It is cold in the San Francisco area today-I think in the 50’s, brrrr.

end of an era

I just had to hop on and say a few words in memory of Miles’ morning nap time. What was once my time to shower, have some tea, hop on facebook, do some work, clean the kitchen or eat my own breakfast, has now been replaced by Miles powering through his nap time and charging…

  • DoodleBunz/DB ImpressionsJanuary 19, 2009 - 6:05 pm

He truly is a doll Betsy…and πŸ™ to the end of morning naps. Does he happen to take an afternoon one? I’m going to be SO sad when my kids quit taking their afternoon naps…Its totally Mom-sanity time just like your mornings were.

  • Maya LaurentJanuary 19, 2009 - 6:59 pm

Oh Betsy, I’m sad for you. Zane gave up his morning nap several months ago and I longed for that time again. You’ll get used to a new schedule and showering early…or waiting till the afternoon nap! πŸ™‚

Seriously he was born on Groundhog’s Day? That was my due date! Zane didn’t come till the 7th though!

  • Jess (studio3z)January 20, 2009 - 1:23 am

I am right behind you sista…Gabe is trying with all his might to not sleep in the morning, but I keep making him lay down. I just am not ready to quit the morning nap!! For us, it is an hour and a half where I can sit (semi-quietly) to do school with the other 3 kids!! πŸ™‚ I will seriously cry when this nap is done. :\

  • redJanuary 20, 2009 - 1:31 am

oh man, a year later and I still yearn for those morning naps! I still haven’t figured out the shower thing though… Fabulous picture of Miles! His eyes get me every time. A little off topic (sorry!) but I adore that green behind him – is that a painted wall? If so, do you know the colour of it? it’s gorgeous!

  • KateJanuary 20, 2009 - 3:45 am

Oh wow! He is just darling!!! What a great shot of Mr. Miles!

Hey Betsy! First time commenter, long time follower. I found you through Bobbi’s site and love to read your blog. I love reading about Miles and seeing his photos — he’s sooooo adorable. I was home from work yesterday for MLK day and was watching the mindless daytime TV shows. Thought of you when the Beautiful Baby contest was mentioned on Regis and Kelly. The grand prize is $125K! Miles could totally win this thing! http://bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/regisandkelly/contests/babies09/index.html
