i’m still here. kind of.

Hey gang. I got back from my weekend at my workshop around 1 AM last light. Oh man, it was pretty amazing to focus on photography for the long weekend, but oh boy, that last night I went to sleep alone, my heart ached for my boys at home! It’s good for me to get…

I will be patient. So siked when I saw you were at Brianna Graham. Can’t wait for the workshop recap. But get some rest first!

betsy works on getting a grip

I have this thing about my hair. My hair, and finding shoes for my feet are the bane of my existence. Now trust me, considering I lost my first husband to cancer and saw more horrors than I ever imagined existed through my journey of cancer with him, I feel like a HUGE jerk that…

I hear you! You should have seen me on make-over day. I was so nervous the shampoo guy offered me a glass of wine from the back to help me relax. The colorist offered me hard liquor!

Hair looks great though! Subtle highlights. LOVE the cut!

  • AbraApril 24, 2009 - 4:54 am

I said it once, and I’ll say it again. You look dead sexy. You had NO reason whatsoEVER to freak out but I feel you totally and completely. I have a thing with hair too. Mine is about getting bored with it too fast and too often and always wanting to change it. Not always with the best results. Try being known as a chameleon.

On another note, I know it seems like I superstalk you but I really don’t…really. It’s just that out of all the people I “follow” (that doesn’t sound stalkerish at all, thanks Twitter for coming up with such a user friendly expression) you are seemingly one of the most down to earth and I find myself identifying with you and your seld-diagnosed neurosis. πŸ™‚

And your little boy is just the cutest thing ever, since my little boy that is. LOL Those cheeks are to die for. You really need to post a pic of you at that age becuase you can tell he looks a lot like you.

  • BrandiApril 24, 2009 - 5:19 am

I had to come out of lurkdom to tell you that you look AMAZING! The highlights are very subtle and lovely. Every time I’ve gotten highlights, I end up looking like a skunk.

  • Amber MartinApril 24, 2009 - 11:26 am

Betsy, your hair looks super cute, and I love how it moves, layers rock! Congrats on change! Oh and on another note, Miles is adorable!

  • steveApril 24, 2009 - 12:04 pm

When I have hair worries, I just put on my slanket, and stay up til 4 singing my Cheese Song. πŸ˜‰

  • LindsayApril 24, 2009 - 12:25 pm

Bets- I think your hair is great! Very sassy! And, I dont even notice the highlights =)

  • jess@studio3zApril 24, 2009 - 12:26 pm

your hair looks GREAT! But I totally get it…I try not to, but I have the same illness, and am SO not kind to my hairdresser when it is not what I envisioned. LIKE, she is supposed to read my MIND, DUH. Actually, your style looks like mine when I straighten it, but mine is a bit more of a mullet (really short back layers). It was a major leap of faith when I did my most recent cut. You are gonna be gorgeous at your workshop darlin! πŸ™‚

  • Pat QuinnApril 24, 2009 - 12:44 pm

I absolutely love your hair!! I used to freak out too until I finally came to grips with the fact that it will grow back if I hate it – but I never do! BTW I think I am addicted to “Miles pics” he is so darn cute!!!

  • MikeApril 24, 2009 - 1:22 pm

just shave your head, then you don’t have to worry about it! Problem solved.

  • ErickaApril 24, 2009 - 3:25 pm

Must say….One H.O.T.T. Mama! Super cute!

  • MichelleApril 24, 2009 - 4:38 pm

    HAHA!!! Timely! πŸ˜‰

I’m driving 45 minutes to the OTHER side of our town today (same small-ish town thing that you’ve got going on… “why am I driving ALL THE WAY to the Northside?”).

The only difference is I adhere to the “I don’t really care AT ALL about my hair… and I also have mom hair. πŸ˜‰

Great post, and your hair & scarf look FAB!

  • JennieApril 24, 2009 - 6:46 pm

Miles looks so serious but with a sly smile!

  • ClaryApril 24, 2009 - 9:32 pm

You are speaking my language…I’m a hairzilla and could with out a doubt feel all of your angst right along with you. With that said, your hair really is adorable and I’m sure the highlights look awesome when it’s hair curly:):)

  • CassieApril 25, 2009 - 3:38 pm

Betsy, your hair is SO cute!! I totally understand the hair dilemma, though. I get so anxious about somebody screwing it up that I won’t go to the salon for like, oh…a year? I feel like they always screw up the color. But yours looks really great–I love the cut! And Miles, well, I think you know how cute he is πŸ™‚

  • HallyApril 27, 2009 - 11:12 pm

Just a fan of your work dropping in to say I love the hair both curly and straight. LOVE the highlights.

  • MollyApril 30, 2009 - 8:00 pm

My first comment on your blog but I just couldn’t resist. First let me say you look great as always (you’re also not lieing about high school). I am just like you every time I go to a new hair salon and with as many times as I’ve moved that has been a lot. I love knowing there is some else out there with as much anxiety as myself over going somewhere new. I would sometimes wait months just to go to my uncle’s salon in Fort Wayne to avoid the anxiety.

  • MeganMay 7, 2009 - 8:51 pm

Bets…your hair looks great. You are hilarious and very brave for airing your “hairy laundry” to your blogging family. Highlights are the best and simplest way to add a little pizazz into your world. I’m proud of you! And again…you look GREAT!

  • Maya LaurentMay 23, 2009 - 2:43 pm

Betsy it looks so good! I cry almost everytime I come home from the salon. Pat never knows how to react because he loves it and I can’t get a grip over it, if I’ll be able to do the same thing the next day, etc. Why do we do that to ourselves?

Anna, class of 2009

For Anna’s blog post, I’m giving it all away in the first photo. Here is is, my FAVORITE shot of the day. I couldn’t help posting it first. (Yep, I was the kid in school who ate her dessert first. I guess I’m still the same way.) I just LOVE these first two shots. So…

I don’t know which I enjoy more, the pictures or your commentary. Oh and I am totally going to steal that line about the first 15 minutes being about getting comfortable with each other. So right. Never thought of it like that.

  • AprilApril 22, 2009 - 10:26 am

What a natural, beautiful young lady!!!! What flawless beauty you’ve captured. WOW! Fab photos, Betsy!

  • robinApril 22, 2009 - 11:50 am

What a beautiful girl! Love these pictures, all of them. Those first two are sweet and I love her smile in the one under the arches (you could just let your jeans drag on the floor like most of us!).

  • CassieApril 22, 2009 - 12:07 pm

Love her blue eyes! What a cool shoot. πŸ™‚ And I know what you mean about jeans…I actually bought a pair of pants last month that were actually capris but fit me as…pants.

  • GailApril 22, 2009 - 12:34 pm

WAY TO GO BETS! These are beautiful! My favorite is the one with the fence!

  • JessicaApril 22, 2009 - 12:39 pm

Amazing photos, Betsy! Just curious…did you shoot Anna outdoors at Trinity English Lutheran Church? The background looks very familiar to me. Great job! πŸ™‚

  • indiaApril 22, 2009 - 2:02 pm

anna your eyes are amazing, I’m in love with all the pictures!

  • Amber LeeApril 22, 2009 - 3:05 pm

Oh these are just beautiful… not only are your pictures getting more flawless by the post but she is just beautiful!! I love how you pay so much attention to details that enhance a person’s genuine beauty and true personality πŸ™‚

  • Diane - DB ImpressionsApril 22, 2009 - 5:11 pm

Great shots! I think my personal favorite is the fourth one down… and that shirt is kind of popular this year, but it looks GREAT on people with blue eyes!

  • ErinApril 22, 2009 - 8:12 pm

  • Joni (a.k.a Momma Dee)April 27, 2009 - 10:34 pm

Thank you are two words that seem so insignificant; but all I can think of when I look at the photos you took of our daughter. You have a great talent and I’m so glad Anna found you (and yes, we are finding it hard to pick our favorite – but then that’s why we’ve decided to each pick our fav-five)! Thanks again Betsy and thank you to all your friends for their nice comments!

  • Pat QuinnApril 28, 2009 - 8:53 pm

WOW!!! She is beautiful and so is your work. Makes me want to get my daughter’s pictures retaken (but she graduated 4 years ago)!!!

flip flops, I miss you.

I was editing Abby’s photos today and when I came across this one, I decided to write my flip flops, who are lying dusty at the back of my closet, a little love note in the hopes that they will return. (Because in my world, flip flops control the weather. Just roll with me on…

Had I known about this lack of flip flop weather, I can guarantee you that Mitch would have had a harder time convincing me to move to Indiana. If there is a positive, I guess it saves me money on pedicures. πŸ™‚

  • heidi garciaApril 22, 2009 - 4:31 am

So I take it you don’t want to hear that I’ve been wearing my gray ones, red one, or black ones? … Ill also leave out that I’ve been wearing them for about week now πŸ˜‰ Ps it was about 95 here today

Spring would be lovely….nice, consistent spring, a few rain showers here and there…some lovely sunny weather….gosh that would be nice. Let me know if it comes your way, because then it should head my way!!

color of play

I”m heading to a photography workshop this weekend to hopefully be challenged to grow, feel inspired for the new year ahead and enjoy the company of some great people, new friends and old. It’s a huge gift to myself (both financially and of time away from my family and my work) that I never dreamed… Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Ahhhhh… I completely know what you mean! Children are so pure and fresh and good at playing with creativity. It’s so sad that grown-ups let go of that part of ourselves so easily. And it’s so wonderful that kids remind us how easily we can find it again πŸ™‚

  • CassieApril 21, 2009 - 3:44 am

So precious!! Jason & I like to do watercolor painting on Saturday mornings, too—it channels the inner-child, I think πŸ™‚ Hope you have a great time this weekend!

  • annie pApril 21, 2009 - 12:00 pm

the best art in our house is the ones made by our kids – we have them framed and matted in our bedroom, bathroom, stairwell, basement. you can’t beat them for unique and even though some of them are a few years old – they still warm my heart to be surrounded by them. i say frame it and hang where you can see it everyday – nothing makes a kid prouder than one who can see his work is loved (not much different than and adult! ;o))

  • jess@studio3zApril 21, 2009 - 2:32 pm

He is so cute with all the paint all over his hands!! You are such a good momma. πŸ™‚ I still have some of Priya’s little paintings on canvas from when she was 2 hanging on the walls. Precious memories.

  • Maya LaurentApril 22, 2009 - 1:22 am

A boy after my own heart with painting!!! I cannot wait to hear about your workshop!!! You will have a blast and learn so much!

  • Last Forty PercentApril 22, 2009 - 1:27 am

This is awesome. We have a two year old too and this makes me want to go out and buy finger paint right now. This is so sweet! – bri
