Jocelyn’s birth story video

In honor of Jocelynโ€™s half birthday this week, I decided to finally document her birth story. A mix of video and still photos that John and I took a the hospital, set to music. John and I made the video together and we just love it. I hope you enjoy sharing in this magical time…

So precious!! Great idea, and you will surely treasure this. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • CourtneyJanuary 24, 2011 - 12:45 pm

This video is so beautiful, thank you for sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚ And the song Feels Like Home is one of my all time faves. Such a lovely family you have!

  • AnnieJanuary 24, 2011 - 4:30 pm

Beautiful, Betsy! It’s so nice to see someone else owning their decision to go with a C-section. After having a C-section with our first, I struggled with choosing that for our second child, too – especially since our kids are only 13 months apart and we had to make that decision so soon… In the end, I think what you said is so true – it doesn’t have to be a natural birth to be amazing and beautiful. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • ChelsaJanuary 24, 2011 - 5:12 pm

    Beautiful Betsy, Beautiful.

  • CaraJanuary 24, 2011 - 5:13 pm

The moment the music started playing I got tears in my eyes! I am expecting our first baby girl in 12 days and due to previous surgery I will be having a scheduled c-section so I think I instantly related to your experience. The beautiful images you have shared capture a spectacular moment in time. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of what’s to come. You have a beautiful family!

  • Tira JJanuary 24, 2011 - 5:16 pm

Betsy, this was so beautiful! Thank you for sharing your heart and the love you have for your precious family. Jocelyn is such a beautiful baby girl and is so blessed to have you and John as parents, and Miles as a big brother. xoxo

  • annie pJanuary 24, 2011 - 10:17 pm

It turned out and great something that you all will no doubt cherish. Enjoy! Oh and funny – the nurse in your nursing picture looked like she was wearing your favorite earrings – it made me laugh. Seriously though I love nursing pictures- I have them of my children, such an amazing thing to nourish you child in such a way!

  • jayneJanuary 25, 2011 - 8:00 am

sooo beautiful! love Miles saying ‘no thank you’ when asked by John did he want him to pick up the baby!!!

  • BethJanuary 25, 2011 - 8:49 am

Aww! My second was transverse when I went into labor and so was born by emergency c-section. I mourned this too for quite some time. It’s nice to know others have gone through the same. Love the idea of a video birth story ๐Ÿ™‚

  • CassieJanuary 25, 2011 - 11:47 am

This is so, so beautiful Betsy. What a treasure this will be for her when she gets older.

  • melanieJanuary 25, 2011 - 2:13 pm

nori sat on my lap and swayed to the music with me. ๐Ÿ™‚ beautiful. and she shouted “baby!!” every second she saw jossy.

  • Heidi GarciaJanuary 25, 2011 - 2:13 pm

awesome! ….and you and your mom have same voice and “word expression” ๐Ÿ™‚ oh happy day

  • JoanneJanuary 25, 2011 - 2:19 pm

Really wonderful! Had me tearing up.. especially when Miles came in to see the baby. I am expecting my second baby boy in about a month, and also have an almost 4 year old boy, so it really hit home.

  • KirstyJanuary 25, 2011 - 10:40 pm

Darling video…so many precious moments captured. I was able to go in an photograph my sister in laws c section and I was just so moved. I made her little photo video a year ago and just shared it a few days ago on my blog as the baby just celebrated her 1st bday!

  • SherryJanuary 26, 2011 - 2:35 am

I watch it over and over. Miles is such a treasure and we are so in love with each other..I can’t go very many days without him in my life…AND now Jossy…I have to kinda downplay being with her, which is very hard, cause I am Miles Grandma and Jossy is Mommy’s baby and he reminds me of that often…When I do have Jossy in my arms, Miles can find all kinds of ways to get my attention. It is the most wonderful time of my day…to spend it at the 4 Kings..I started surprises in my purse long time ago..Miles is very patient and mannerly, but in time he always remembers..if not in the purse, He wonders if maybe there is a surprise in the car…He wants to see me lots!!! he he he I love conversations with him,We talk lots..He is 4 going on 40! as most of you know. He informed me that the water on the outside of his glass was condensation.

  • AprilJanuary 26, 2011 - 1:25 pm

    Just beautiful!!!

  • Lynsey TJanuary 27, 2011 - 11:30 am

Oh Betsy…this was so beautiful. The songs are just perfect and the video was amazing. You and John are so talented and are such sweet parents. Thanks for sharing and happy, happy half birthday to Jocelyn too!

  • KellyJanuary 27, 2011 - 1:01 pm

Betsy this totally brought tears to my eyes! So beautiful!

  • Sara JoJanuary 27, 2011 - 11:41 pm

This is beautiful. That first song, “Feels Like Home,” has had a special place in my heart for years, and it’s the song I want to dance to at my wedding someday. Thank you for sharing your life with your readers!

  • AmandaJanuary 27, 2011 - 11:54 pm

As a photographer, I love seeing her birth story told through the photos. As soon as the music started, so did the crocodile tears. I have actually hired someone to document our baby girl’s birth (in just a few weeks), and this totally reconfirms that decision. I know you’ll treasure these memories always. Congrats again!

  • Jen LoganSeptember 17, 2012 - 9:12 pm

Still so sweet the second time around!! I can’t wait for my babe to get here!!

amy’s baby shower

Well folks, the illness has marched on and now the scoreboard in the King house hold is currently two ear infections, one sinus infection (ewwwww) and one plain old cold. Yep, all four Kings are sick now. Thankfully, the pugs are healthy little rock stars as usual, so thankfully we donโ€™t have to add canine…

beautiful shower, betsy!! i’ll be throwing my bff a baby (her first) shower mid-feb so i love seeing your spread here. i’ve been tucking away little ideas for a while now, but it’s time to get the ball rolling. thanks for the inspiration!

  • Heidi RJanuary 23, 2011 - 2:01 pm

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been sick! I knew that meant a delay in posting the shower photos that I’ve been anxiously waiting to see! It looks like you went “over and above” in the hostessing dept. Such a fun day of celebration; I was so sad to miss it! Maybe you could come to Minneapolis for spring baby showers after the little guy has arrived!!

  • JennaJanuary 23, 2011 - 2:38 pm

You have TOTALLY inspired me! I’ve been trying to think of a very practical way to decorate for our first birthday party over here and love your simply stated banner above the food table. YEA! The little favors are also adorable! Jon has great design skills!

  • CassieJanuary 23, 2011 - 2:49 pm

Oh, I SO wish I could have been there. It turned out so beautiful Bets! And I agree about Judy, she is just one of my favorite people.

You are a party planner now! Woohoo!

  • annie pJanuary 23, 2011 - 8:59 pm

throwing showers for friends is the best. love the little details – it’s all the things you forget to take in at your own. Amy will be a wonderful mother -I’ll never forget talking to her at you and John’s wedding. She mentioned how she couldn’t wait to one day have a family and she asked about the kids and all. During a time when you don’t always feel special or appreciated – it was a nice reprieve to be asked and praised. Congrats to the Cornells for starting their own family!

  • Kathleen ShermanJanuary 24, 2011 - 2:56 pm

This shower was totally fabulous–like going in to a movie set and finding that it was completely real, there for Amy and this huge entourage of people who love her to be together. It was snowy outside, and the fire was going, too, so all the awesome decorations were even better. Barb Cornell went to the same high school that I did in Minneapolis, as did her sister. We had a Minnesota reunion! My history there and my history here are now joined because of Amy and Betsy!

  • LoriJanuary 25, 2011 - 7:23 am

Would love any details of what you did for the open house shower. I am thinking about having mine that way in April, I just love the idea. Thank you!

  • Alice TewellJanuary 26, 2011 - 10:58 pm

Betsy, this is beautiful. What a wonderful gift to Amy! I love looking at your photos and reading your posts. Beautiful writer and photographer.

  • […] best friend, Amy, was in town this week and I got to see her and her family twice. Yay! This was huge considering […]

milessaid he’s on twitter

Iโ€™m still crazy sick. Like โ€œNIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADโ€ kind of sick. Iโ€™m in gross sweats, I have the remnants of sticky infant Tylenol matted in my hair and a red chapped nose. Iโ€™m the opposite of fabulous. Jocelyn is super sick as well, so over the past week, when all we felt like…

I’m always excited to see a milessaid tweet in my feed ๐Ÿ™‚ One of my all-time favorites is, “Be careful not to get sunscreen on my bathing suit or it will stain. That’s because of the electricity.”

He is going to LOVE reading these someday.

  • GailJanuary 20, 2011 - 2:46 pm

    Man…that kid, he’s SUCH a hoot!

  • Tira JJanuary 20, 2011 - 2:49 pm

AWE, I love following Miles on Twitter. He does say the greatest things. And I love that it’s like a little memory book of his quotes.

  • Brian ShakleyJanuary 20, 2011 - 3:01 pm

This is just brilliant. I’ve fallen in blog-love with your children. They’re making people happy all over the country (world, perhaps?) and they don’t even realize it.

  • JennaJanuary 20, 2011 - 3:09 pm

Love those quotes and what a BRILLIANT way to keep track of them! I do a little column on my blog called “Life Moves Fast” based on that infamous quote. Here it is: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” –Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

  • Nikki WelchJanuary 20, 2011 - 7:18 pm

That is such an adorable idea!!! Miles is just too cute.

  • richJanuary 20, 2011 - 9:19 pm

IT’s a great idea – I wish I used my twitter feed more like that – it really is like an awesome notepad that’s pretty easy to access at any time. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • richJanuary 20, 2011 - 9:20 pm

oh – and I REALLY missed twitter after I quit! Facebook – I have never even felt one tiny, single shred of regret from deleting my personal account. See ya out there in twitterland.

  • ErinJanuary 21, 2011 - 5:10 am

this is hilarious!!! oh my, the things that come out of his mouth, he’s a sweetie! (and what a fantastic way to remember all these awesome little one-liners – much better than your average scrapbook!)

  • ShannonJanuary 21, 2011 - 9:51 am

This is a wonderful idea! I don’t normally comment, but I had to on this one. I am definitely going to do this when my little girl starts talking! BTW — your blog has really helped me prepare for our second daughter. I have a 9-month-old and am due with number two in mid-May. I was very concerned about the transition from one to two (since it really caught us by surprise!) and it’s nice to know that others feel the same things. I also love to see how well the Kings are doing now as a family of four instead of three. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

  • JennyJanuary 21, 2011 - 3:39 pm

Hilarious!! My favorite is leave the toilet seat up! Ha ha.

  • Cassie PlummerJanuary 21, 2011 - 4:37 pm

I can’t stop laughing!!! This is great!

  • Heather CorporanJanuary 22, 2011 - 2:59 pm

This is such a great idea! I keep saying someday I’ll make a photo book with all the funny things my kids say. Problem is I rarely write them down, other than sometimes on FB posts. Thanks for sharing – so cute!

  • AprilJanuary 22, 2011 - 3:06 pm

Awwww, I just love what 3 year olds say! I’ve got one myself and I’m trying to write things down in his baby book. The special kind of Target like Disney World is genius! What spunky guy you have!

  • lexi skeensJanuary 28, 2011 - 5:19 pm

lol. Those are so awesome, but the slug one made my day (: haha

  • kimFebruary 2, 2011 - 4:59 pm

OMG – thank you so much for this idea! i love to go back and read my twitter feed and try to put funny things max says on there from time to time, but i never thought to make an account just for that. i’m going to go do that now! love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

whatever

I threw my BFFโ€™s baby shower this weekend (which was fabulous) and the MINUTE I got in the car to drive home I felt a cold coming on. (Ok, truthfully, I felt it that morning, but hosting adrenaline pushed me through.) So now Iโ€™m FULL ON SICK, Jocelyn has a TERRIBLE cold (itโ€™s the saddest…

  • JennaJanuary 19, 2011 - 10:21 am

O.M.G. Miles’ outfit is ADORABLE! GAP commercial anyone??!!

  • richJanuary 20, 2011 - 9:21 pm

Would you style my child for me?!?!?

  • Maya LaurentJanuary 21, 2011 - 10:17 am

    The last photo of Miles…hilarious!

  • Lisa KoedykerJanuary 23, 2011 - 3:25 pm

I’m pretty sure ELLEN would invite Miles to dance with her on her talk show…just by looking at that series of photos! He’s got style, spunk & personality!

around the house

I havenโ€™t had much personal time lately as my hands have been full around here, but I had to pop some photos up here of life around the King house. There are lots of photos of Jocelyn in the exersaucer. She LOVES to sit in there and watch her brother, which is probably what is… Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

She is getting so big!! I must admit I’m not a big fan of the flowered headbands, but I hope John liked the one I made ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. We really do need to get J & your dad together. J got a guidebook to trees and birds in the mail today and FLIPPED.

  • April Cochran-SmithJanuary 15, 2011 - 10:57 am

Such cute, happy kids! I so wish we lived closer, I have a feeling Jack & Miles would totally hit it off!

  • Jessica ParkisonJanuary 16, 2011 - 4:27 pm

She’s a beauty! How can John not approve of the flower?! I’ve seen some gaudy ones but that is just stinkin cute! She looks so much like you with the floppy hat on, she must have a tiny little head, or I have forgotten how small babies really are! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • AngelaJanuary 17, 2011 - 6:46 pm

OMGosh! Jocelyn looks a-dor-able in that headband and hat! Tell Daddy that a girl liked her accessories! I love lavender on her, especially. You are having so much fun! P.S. I also found out adding cinnamon to your coffee grounds also packs a ton of antioxidants!

  • Maya LaurentJanuary 21, 2011 - 10:17 am

Oh no…I so love headbands on girls! I might have to get Jocelyn one from some of my high school girls who make them!
