self portrait series: february

I tried to do a self portrait where it was truly just myself, but today, on the last day of the month with the sun setting, it just wasn’t going to happen. Having the kids in the photo totally tells the story of February though as I have been in total HERMIT MODE this month….

  • heidi garciaMarch 1, 2011 - 12:55 am

I can totally relate to this whole post. Funny how that is. I to am “learning” how to enjoy kitchen everyday productivity πŸ™‚ LOVE the pics

  • richMarch 1, 2011 - 6:46 am

were doing the same with our kitchen – white everything! Love it – and yeah, it’s always a hamster wheel and we’re not even to number two yet!!

  • Jen OMarch 1, 2011 - 9:07 am

I LOVE that first pic and that you captured your life as it is right now. πŸ™‚ I too feel like I am constantly cleaning the kitchen! And I totally agree about the white cabinets – so much happier!

  • CassieMarch 1, 2011 - 9:33 am

Oh, I love this post. So many things made me laugh out loud. Usually by 5:20pm I’m scrounging the house for hidden chocolate, too! πŸ™‚ I think I’m ready to get out of hermit mode, too. The sunshine today helps!

And I’m lovin the first pic, even with the anti-depressant commercial face! πŸ™‚

  • Jenna UMarch 1, 2011 - 10:31 am

These are so fun. You really will cherish them forever. I LOVE Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbana! It is the best! ANd I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of white wood work and cabinets.

  • Liz @ Law MamaMarch 1, 2011 - 2:33 pm

I love these! And you’re making me wish for a more open plan living/kitchen area… πŸ™‚

  • GailMarch 1, 2011 - 11:38 pm

Oh girl, my February self-portrait is still in the works. So don’t feel bad about sneaking this one in! (I figure I get a free pass, right?)

Love these shots. I’m SO happy you’re doing this. That so many of my friends who are mothers are doing this, because y’all need more shots of YOU with your kiddos in them. I actually think that shot of you and Joss is SUPER precious. You look gorgeous!!

  • JaimeMarch 2, 2011 - 9:44 pm

Love your site…just need to tell you in the comments more often! So, I always love your photos, stories and the heart with which you speak. I feel like I’m looking in the mirror with this one. Kid on hip, cookin’, cleanin’, cozy in my house all winter! It’s just nice to see I’m not alone! πŸ™‚

  • SherryApril 4, 2011 - 11:29 pm

he he he Jossy has the same expression that you do!

  • StephaniApril 8, 2011 - 4:59 pm

I just want to say that I SO CAN RELATE to this πŸ™‚ This is my life, too. And it’s so refreshing to know that I am not alone! I always say to my husband “Why does it feel like I spend 95% of my day in the kitchen?! I mean, when I’m not sleeping it feels like I’m always in the KITCHEN. Can’t wait for some warmer weather πŸ™‚

a sneak peek and shop for a cause

For the first time in a very long time I have a sneak peek to share. No, I’m not back to taking clients full time or even part time yet, but I have been taking what I like to call β€œprojects” in my studio to keep my artistic side satiated and see how work fits…

What a beautiful family you have! I came to your blogsite from the Koop family auction- your comment there was touching so I clicked on your link. I really love your photography, and your site is very warm and welcoming. PS I’m jealous of your mini-van. πŸ™‚

  • jesszFebruary 28, 2011 - 10:30 pm

These are some of my favorite pix of these two monkeys I’ve seen to date! Great captures, hon!!! So glad Val has people in the world who empathize with her situation, although I would never wish it upon anyone. You are a gem! smooches.

sweetness

No time to blog today, just had to pop up these photos of my girl Jocelyn. (They taken back in Dec. 2010, actually.) I’m blogging her today because all day long she has smelled like marshmallows. Just when I thought she couldn’t get any sweeter, she does. She is my sweet little punkin that oozes…

Oh how she makes a perfect girlfriend for Jude. Just saying! πŸ™‚

yep, we got a van and I LOVE it

Ok, so you all know I said goodbye to the Jeep in my usual dramatic fashion. Now it’s time to introduce you to Sasha, our new (to us) mini van. Miles looks bored here, but I assure you, he thinks Sasha is just as awesome as I do. I don’t care who thinks I’m a…

That’s GREAT! Love all the excitement of it all.

  • courtneyFebruary 24, 2011 - 2:03 am

YAY for your van! πŸ™‚ Sasha is a good name. LOL.

  • richFebruary 24, 2011 - 8:10 am

Oh my god, I love that you posted this. Murphy would lose his gourd over a van, too. We’re seriously thinking about it because I sold my truck last year and now we just have a Saturn Ion that basically had a half back seat. Two kids? Yeah, that’s gonna get a little tight. Enjoy your family spaceship!

  • ErinFebruary 24, 2011 - 8:45 am

Looks awesome! Glad you love it, mama. My motto is currently, “whatever makes life with 2 kids easier.” Just think how smoothly you’ll breeze through the McD’s drive through! lol- kidding. πŸ™‚ And baby girl clothes 6-12 coming your way soon!

  • Jen LFebruary 24, 2011 - 9:23 am

Love it! We are saving up for an Odyssey and I can’t wait to get one!

  • JennaFebruary 24, 2011 - 9:38 am

You guys are so stinkin’ cute in front of your van! Sometimes I think photos like that seem so funny to take, but then you look back a year later and are SO glad you have them! My sis made the big transition in the summer and we are ALL in love. It is seriously the best thing for families. It’s amazing SUVs are still in the running because vans really do have it goin’ for ’em. Isn’t the cargo room CRAZY? We did a four-hour road trip with 4 adults, 3 kids and enough stuff for five days and were COMFORTABLE! Enjoy!

  • CassieFebruary 24, 2011 - 9:50 am

Hey, we have Avram’s Graco carseat at my dad’s house if you want to use it until she’s big enough for a convertible! Seriously. It’s like brand new. You could totally borrow it. It’s just chillin in the basement over there.

I am so jealous you have a minivan! And, as always, you look adorable. πŸ™‚

  • Jen LFebruary 24, 2011 - 10:09 am

and I have a little jacket that has Jocelyn’s name on it. Since I will never have another little girl named Jocelyn its yours if you want it. Only problem is it is 3-6 months. I’m pretty sure my Jocelyn wore it past then though and she was a big girl. I’ll email you a picture.

  • ErinFebruary 24, 2011 - 10:28 am

i’ve been driving a mini van for a week now while we visit the US and i have to say, i LOVE it, too! they just feel so luxurious nowadays. πŸ˜‰

  • KristinFebruary 24, 2011 - 10:35 am

Congratulations on the new car! But I was suprised by what you wrote about the DVD-player. Is it really common in the US to have that in your car? I’m from Europe and I have hardly ever seen it. Hoe much TV do those kids watch, when they even have it in the car?!

  • annie pFebruary 24, 2011 - 11:04 am

enjoy – it’s great, especially when the kids are little. I felt the same way you do now about the van -but mine was getting rid of the van and getting my current car. A new phase of life to enjoy!

  • Tira JFebruary 24, 2011 - 12:10 pm

Yippee for you guys! I have an Odyssey and LOVE IT! Congrats!

  • NickFebruary 24, 2011 - 10:01 pm

Way to go Betsy & John. Even as a single guy, I WANT one of these after riding in a friend’s. Best van ever!

  • Kristin HaywardFebruary 25, 2011 - 12:48 am

You don’t know me, but I follow Matilda Jane’s clothing on FB and found your name in a roundabout way on her page…anyway, you are soooo me! I am pining for a Van after renting one last fall to go to Disneyland (from AZ) and have literally typed Honda Odyessey into my search engine a million and one times too. AND, I feel the same way and want one with leather (hello, barfing kids!) but NO DVD player (hello, WHINING kids!) I feel like I know you after reading this…maybe someday soon I will be in your shoes (thanks to our not too shabby tax return) and will send you a pic of me next to my own version of Sasha. πŸ™‚ Thanks for posting!

  • LisaFebruary 25, 2011 - 8:06 am

we’ve got a tv-free-Odyssey too and love it (and even though it took me a while, I finally got a handle on the spelling) – congrats, have fun and enjoy!

  • BrittanyFebruary 25, 2011 - 4:39 pm

I’m sure you mentioned it before, but what kind of diapers do you use on Jocelyn? They are so cute and we want to switch to cloth for our baby πŸ™‚

  • BetsyFebruary 25, 2011 - 4:55 pm

I use Grasshopper Diapers and BumGenius on Jocelyn. You can find Grasshopper Diapers in the link above or here: http://www.grasshopperdiapers.com

  • Heather CorporanFebruary 25, 2011 - 6:15 pm

Betsy girl, I soooo share in your excitement! We had a four and three year old in highback boosters, AND an infant in an infant car seat in our, get this, Honda CIVIC!! Four door version, but SERIOUSLY?? Lol The toll people use to look at us like we had four heads when we went through everyday. EVERYday I still am thankful for my awesome Odyssey. We do have the rear entertainment, but I can say as a mommy who didn’t originally want it, that our recent trip from NH to FL was bliss thanks to those two little screens! And we have the same trip next week, which I’m expecting to be bliss lol. Enjoy your van momma!!! If you’re like me, it’ll never get old for a million mommy reasons : )

  • Nicki SmithFebruary 28, 2011 - 12:29 pm

We just got a Nissan Quest this past weekend, so I totally understand your excitement. I thought with only two kids there just wasn’t a reason for a mini-van, but I was so wrong! We’ve only had it 3 days and I LOVE it and probably will drive it until the wheels fall off. Enjoy your new van!

  • Maya LaurentMarch 4, 2011 - 7:09 pm

I am JEALOUS! I want a van! You are the hippest looking momma I’ve ever seen next to van girl!

big fluffy snowflakes mean i’m baking cookies for dessert

As soon as the Kitchenaid is turned on, both dogs come running. The big dog sits as close to the counter as possible, just incase something falls out of the mixing bowl. As gross as it sounds, I sometimes let them lick the batter.

  • DonyaFebruary 22, 2011 - 4:27 pm

I have yet to find a cookie recipe where I liked the baked cookie over licking the batter. I even will make edible cookie dough (no eggs) once in awhile instead of a batch of chocolate chip cookies!

  • lesleyMarch 9, 2011 - 5:01 pm

this photo is too cute! what a great moment you captured.
