jocelyn’s birth announcement

I thought I would share Jocelyn’s birth announcement that we mailed out to friends and family. It’s a 5×7 flat card printed on Pearlized cardstock with parchment paper envelopes. I was GIDDY to get to create something girly!

Ever since I incorporated a crown into our Christmas card last year, I like the idea of using it in other cards as well to tie in our last name. So you see it make an appearance here too. Of course, it does kind of add a little “princessy flair” to the card, but I swear, I’m not really into the whole “princess thing” for little girls. I’m sure she’ll discover Disney princesses in her own time, but I’m going to try my best to keep her as princess neutral for as long as I can. (I’m sure that will be as successful as when we tried to keep licensed characters away from Miles. That lasted exactly two years before he discovered Cars and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.) Though man, there is something about a beautiful little girl in your arms that just makes you put that imaginary crown on their soft little head and deem them and their long curly lashes nothing but royalty. (If you can’t tell, my heart has just melted over and over for my sweet girl.)

I just wrote two paragraphs on my thoughts on raising a strong girl and how I’m feeling so much more responsibility with a girl, than I did with Miles, but it’s late and I’m starting to get crossed eyed. I’m saving that for another night, but basically it’s a theory I’m working on about how I need to work on loving the things about myself I don’t like so I don’t pass those insecurities on to Jocelyn. Bla, bla, bla…maybe I’m just starting to regurgitate an old Whitney Houston song.

Sorry for the disjointed thoughts lately. It’s been a rough past couple of weeks working everything out here in the King household. I’m getting some more sleep at night, but no more naps in the afternoon. Also, the honeymoon is OVER for Miles. I think he has realized that the new baby isn’t going anywhere, the gifts for him have stopped and he no longer has my attention when ever he wants it. It’s been, well, interesting around here. We’ll work it out, but it’s been taking a lot out of me lately so that means my emails and blog posts may not be very coherent lately.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. Ok, enough of my rambling, here’s another photo from the shoot that almost made the card.
