a peek into our thanksgiving 2011

I didn’t host thanksgiving this year. Actually, the last time I hosted thanksgiving I found out (that morning) that I was pregnant with Jocelyn, so I’ve laid low the last couple of years. This year was no different as my mom totally took over spoiling us all with a beautiful thanksgiving. My family enjoys a nice laid back gathering, well, at least as laid back as we can be with Miles and Joss running under foot. My nieces and nephews are all teens/tweens and they are all so patient with our nutty little kiddos.

I didn’t take many photos as I was busy making sure Joss didn’t climb up on the table, but I did snag a few. So here’s thanksgiving at my mom’s house. Welcome!

My mom is so crazy creative. She made this pumpkin turkey that greeted us as we walked in the front door.

Grandma’s house has a toy room, of course!

It’s not a party at my mom’s house without Karaoke. (Seriously, every party thrown at my house since 1992 has had Karaoke.) Joss even got in on the fun.

John was called upon to carve the turkey.

Miles was curious.

If you know my mom, you know she was once the best waitress Cracker Barrel ever employed. She still wears her four stars with pride.

Please pass the potatoes John. If you look in the background, you’ll see a photo of my sister and my late husband on a shelf with a candle. They are always in our hearts when we gather and feel their absence. I said the prayer for Thanksgiving yesterday. (on the spot, of course!) I should have mentioned my sister in the prayer, but I still can’t bring her up easily, even around my family. So Penny, you were on my mind yesterday and greatly missed, I just couldn’t vocalize it at the time.

The teen/tween table!

My mom had a special place set for Joss with her own special chair, plate, cup and her own silverware. (She even had a brand new pink potty for her, which she now uses! Crazy grown up girl!)

Joss loved exploring grandma and grandpa’s house. She found a little fishing pole that she and Miles proceeded to torture us all with.

Hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving! Our day was filled with feeling so thankful for our precious and healthy family. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and encouraging me as I create and share my life and work with you. Lots of love to all of you!

Wow It is so neat to have such a talented photographer in the family.. Thanks daughter..you rock.. I did not get out of bed until noon on black Friday. A wonderful family it is. of course Grandpa Smith worked.. It is important to him that his guards get ALL the holidays off. He’s a GOLDEN RULE guy.

I love the idea of the candle with the photos-that is just perfect! The pumpkin just cracked me up. That is exactly something one of my family members would have done. Looks like you all had a fun day!
