a peek into our weekend

I haven’t written a “mommy blog post” in a while. So, if you will allow me to, I’d like to chat a bit about our weekend with our ever changing and fast growing Miles.

Saturday morning we headed to the library to see if we could satiate Miles’ thirst for books on CD and see what else is new. We started out with a little puppet show from Miles. (Can you see that Miles’ hair is getting curly? That all of a sudden happened! I’m so curious if his hair is going to get dark like mine. His hair color totally stumps me.)

He had a BLAST playing with all of the puppets, barn animals and reading lots of books. Many people have noticed lately how much Miles has grown and YES, he has gone through a major growth spurt and with that, comes a new found sensitivity. He’s a bit more afraid of loud noises too. Anytime the pugs bark out the window, a baby or child cries or, like that day at the library, another kid slams a toy really loud, he runs to one of us and says, “Hug Mommy! Hug Daddy!” So our previously very independent guy has needed us a bit more these days. I imagine it’s just from all the new growth and discoveries he’s been making lately and he’s sorting through it all. A photographer friend recently shared her thoughts about how much work it is being two in this blog post, which makes a lot of sense to me.

I found out something super cool about our library. This is something those of you with kids will probably say, “Duh” to, but I just realized the library has these big blue zippered “kid kits” bags with books and materials compiled into little thematic units to check out all at once. They have all sorts of units like animals, counting and even one on manners. Well, we found one about things that go like trucks, buses, plains and boats and Miles is in HEAVEN. As you can see, he was SO excited to get his bag upstairs to dig in and read before his nap time. It was a miracle I busted my camera out in time to catch him dragging the bag behind him. He was on a mission and moving FAST!

He tried to get them up the stairs, but daddy had to help.

The BIGGEST hit from the day, other than the Richard Scary Cars and Trucks and Things that Go book, was the book on CD, Blueberries for Sal. We have played that CD over and over and over and over. When we go somewhere, we have to play it in the car. When he goes down for a nap, he has to have it playing. If we don’t, he just says, “Blueberry Hill CD, Play Blueberry Hill CD pleeeeease.” This kid is NUTS about listening to stories! So we are on a mission to add some more stories to his repertoire soon. (Any books on CD that you just LOVE? Comment me and I’ll see if we can check it out.)

Oh, and one more thing. On Sundays we have been going to the Food Co Op’s One World Cafe for lunch and hear whatever live music is playing. (The carrot-apple-beet juice is AWESOME AND it looks like you are drinking blood. Which is fun and weird all at once.) Miles looks forward to it all morning by talking about getting to see the guitar. Well, we were sitting and chatting with friends today while listening to the music and every time the guitar player would stop playing Miles would beat everybody’s applause by exclaiming, “Yea!!!!” and then clapping. The kid was totally tuned into the musician and knew when to clap! Miles even scored a CD from the guy for being so appreciative.

Here’s an iphone pic of Miles a couple weeks ago listening to the cafe’s music. Yea, he loves sports, but he also can name instruments like nobody’s business. (I’m dying to brag that Miles knows the difference between a violin, guitar and balalaika, but I won’t. Oh, crap, too late! I just did! Ok, thanks for letting me get it out. I am a mom you know. It’s in our blood to brag about our kids, right?)

Ok, enough of my mommy babbling and bragging. I know, I know, you know I love my little guy. I’m shushing now. Hope you had a great weekend! We did, but this freezing cold gross weather has got to go. Come on Monday, bring some sun!!! So far, things are looking good.

Oh, one more thing. Ever since the change over to betsykingphoto.com, your bookmark for me might be screwed up. So please make sure you check your settings and see if you need to change it over to make sure you get my updates. (You can go to the top of the page and click on “follow me” if you want to bookmark me and know when I’ve updated.) You can always start out at www.betsyandjohn.net, like my mom does, and if I haven’t blogged she goes over to see what John is up to over at Metta Audio. He gets A LOT more sleep than I do (he’s more responsible than I am, not any less busy) so his writing probably makes more sense than mine. I’m hoping he posts his latest songs he has written. They are really good. Oh, see, I got to brag about my husband too! Wow, you guys got an EARFUL today. 😉

Have a great week everybody! I’ve got a busy week ahead, but I’m hoping to get more of that little cutie I previously posted up soon.

I love the pic with John carrying the bag and Miles looking over his shoulder to make sure his goodies were still on their way up behind him. I totally used to go to that cafe to hear music in high school…that makes me so happy you guys go!

Duh me regarding bookmarks. Got it right now! Wish we had kits for kids… Though I couldn’t suck more at returning library stuff on time I can’t imagine keeping a whole kit together as well!

    Happy Monday. 🙂

Okay now I need a brag post on Zane. I have been holding off to not sound like a bragging mom…but you are so right that it’s totally OKAY! It’s just in us. And I think it’s so cute that Miles is running to you when he hears things, etc. How do they change right before our eyes each second?!!!

I’m always talking or bragging about Noah..it makes me feel good- and totally agree on the link post. I remember coming to the realization that is how they deal with change and what not..we as adults learn not to kick and scream at thing out of the norm even though it feels good when we do it by ourselves when no ones looking ;)~

That is too awesome that you had the camera in time to catch him dragging that bag upstairs! What lens do you keep on your camera most?

Yay! I’m so glad to hear you gave it another shot and didn’t give up on the library completely! I hope Miles stays well this week after being around the germies there. And his hair is awesome… “GIRLS LOVE CURLS!”

Well I totally need to update my reader, because I was missing all these fun posts! 😉 Grady has entered a new strange phase with being alarmed at various things too, but mainly it is if we change anything at home, in his home base, so to speak. If I move a piece of furniture, it throws him off; if it a big change, there is crying and then I feel awful. Kids, always something! =)

Brag away Momma, on both your boys. HAHA!
