color of play

I”m heading to a photography workshop this weekend to hopefully be challenged to grow, feel inspired for the new year ahead and enjoy the company of some great people, new friends and old. It’s a huge gift to myself (both financially and of time away from my family and my work) that I never dreamed I would being doing this early in my professional endeavor, but I saw the opportunity to take a leap of faith last year when I signed up, and I went for it.

So as I look forward to expanding and expressing my creativity this weekend, I thought I would show you what creativity looks like in Miles’ world. His media of choice lately has been music as he is singing every song he knows, which we LOVE, but Sunday night the medium was good ‘ol non-toxic paint, brushes, fingers and hands.

Here’s my favorite:

John and I BOTH love how awesome the different colors look on his hand print here. (Man, it’s hard to get a good hand print!)

It was dark as heck up stairs in his bathroom, and really all I wanted to photograph were his colorful hands, so I just opened up my aperture all the way for fun. For those of you who have a DSLR camera, if you haven’t purchased a prime lens, you really should. It’s so much fun to play with that background blur. (I’ll be selling one of mine on here at some point, so stay tuned Canon shooters.)

I LOVE painting with Miles. It really gets our creative juices flowing and with two people running two creative businesses out of a small house, it’s good for us to find ways to keep our creativity refreshed. We love our work, it’s just trying to fit it into everything else that can be draining. So thank you Miles, for showing us how colorful, and inspiring, play can be. 🙂

I have a ZILLION things to do this week so I need to stop procrastinating and say nighty night!

Ahhhhh… I completely know what you mean! Children are so pure and fresh and good at playing with creativity. It’s so sad that grown-ups let go of that part of ourselves so easily. And it’s so wonderful that kids remind us how easily we can find it again 🙂

So precious!! Jason & I like to do watercolor painting on Saturday mornings, too—it channels the inner-child, I think 🙂 Hope you have a great time this weekend!

the best art in our house is the ones made by our kids – we have them framed and matted in our bedroom, bathroom, stairwell, basement. you can’t beat them for unique and even though some of them are a few years old – they still warm my heart to be surrounded by them. i say frame it and hang where you can see it everyday – nothing makes a kid prouder than one who can see his work is loved (not much different than and adult! ;o))

He is so cute with all the paint all over his hands!! You are such a good momma. 🙂 I still have some of Priya’s little paintings on canvas from when she was 2 hanging on the walls. Precious memories.
