girlie girl afternoon

Today was a bit of a rough day because it’s been a month now since I lost my sister. From my experience, the month mark is tough because that is when it really starts to sink in that it’s real. So I really needed to get out of the house, ignore my three loads of laundry and get a change of scenery. Thankfully, I had the best plans ever for a perspective change. I was invited to my friend Kristen’s bridal dress hunt. Oh my goodness, it was JUST what the doctor ordered. It was three hours of girly giddiness and decadence. All the excitement, joy and beauty that surrounds a wedding was just wonderful to wrap myself up in. It’s going to be a long road as I grieve my sister, but afternoons like today with wonderful friends (and a bit of wine) are going to be what get me through it. Thank you Kristen, it was such an honor to share this exciting time with you. Thanks for letting me bring my camera and be obnoxious with it. I’m starting to wonder if I can go anywhere without experiencing it through my lens.

Here’s me, Erin and Holli, aka, the peanut gallery. Miss Holli was actually the one who found THE dress. However, I do have to say I dreamed up a certain accessory and of course, Erin was totally on top of the veil. It was definitely a team effort. I tell you what, Erin knows bridal gowns! She was throwing bridal gown vocab around like it was everyday conversation. Oh, and see that little pile of lace to the left of me in the photo? That’s a $400 lace shrug and we just threw it on the back of the couch. It’s literally maybe a yard of fabric. It was BEAUTIFUL though.

So it’s killing me because I have a ton of beautiful photos of Kristen but we can’t show her dress! So I figured this didn’t give away anything as she had about 85 different veils on and in this photo she is actually wearing two. We just kept sticking stuff on her head, bless her heart. Here she is giving little Preston some love. At one point she was holding him and kind of swinging him around as she wore a two thousand dollar gown. Had that been Miles six months ago, he would have spit up all over it. Preston was good though. He kept it in.

We had the dress store all to ourselves at the Bride to Be on Broadway complete with wine. It was great. I hope she changes her mind and we get to do it again! (Only if she chooses the same dress again. Her dress is AMAZING.)

I think had we had a bit more wine and some more time on our hands we all three (including prego Holli) would have had dresses on. It’s just too much fun! The bridal shop would have been perfect had they had cupcakes. (If you know me, you know I’m addicted to the Soup, Salad and Spirit’s cupcakes) so on the way home, I stopped off at an International Bakery that just so happened to be on Broadway. (I know, I know ladies, I should have called you!)

I have referred to this place on my blog before as Fort Wayne’s own Willy Wonka sweet factory. (It’s right across from Munchies on Broadway.) Everything is made right there and it’s all so freaking colorful and there is SO much of it. I wished I could have busted out some other lenses and taken more time, but I don’t think the owners were too comfortable with me taking photos of the pastries, even though I did ask, I think they thought I was weird. Maybe they thought I was Slugworth, trying to steal their secret recipes! (If you have no idea what I’m talking about, google Slugworth and then you’ll go, “Duh!”) So even though I literally felt like a kid in a candy store snapping photos, I had to take some quickly, grab my doughnuts and run.

I can’t wait to bring Miles to this place. I tell you, there are two walls of just carbs galore.

They even had homemade Hostess looking cupcakes. I wonder if that white squiggly thing is copyrighted.

I came home to John feeding Miles who had a funny story for me. He said that Miles was going to start playing in the dog dishes but when John said, “no,” Miles promptly turned away from the bowls. Then he backed up and sat RIGHT in the dog’s water dish. Poor John! Then Miles wanted to play in the water. What a mess! Bless John for taking a few hours off work this afternoon so I could go play grown up dress up with the girls. Of course, he’s still working and it’s 12:25 AM. Bless him! I’m going to go drag him away and make us all go to bed now. Nighty night.

Oh, I almost forgot to add my random Miles photo. It’s one from our smoothie shoot from yesterday. He’s still got his cold, but handing in there. The latest on him is he is walking more and more which is super fun. Man, once they take that first step, the second, third and fourth are not far behind. He is saying all sorts of new words at the right time too. (Words to us, at least.) Man, it’s all kind of happening at once, which is fun and exciting.

Poor baby, look at those watery eyes. : ( He’s sleeping well though, so hopefully working on getting rid of that cold.

Ok, I’m really shushing now. See ya later!
