help me, I’m trapped by an insane nesting urge to craft

This post won’t have photos of Miles, the pugs, clients or even a belly shot. Nope, once again I have taken way more photos than necessary of an overly simple craft I am way more proud of than I should be.

Yes, I’m busy wrapping up orders before my May deadline, but dang it, my brain has this fixation with crafting right now. So on a rainy Sunday this past weekend I dragged us all out to the craft store to buy some supplies to make some custom magnets. (It’s like I have pregnancy related nesting ADD. It’s the craziest thing. All I want to do is fabric crafts! Does this mean I’m having a girl?)

Magnet

It’s kind of like nesting because I bought a bunch of these magnetic boards a while back to display Miles’ artwork and other fun stuff for our house. I needed some magnets and my crazy nesting urge kind of took over. Here’s the end result of a our kitchen magnet board, which makes me smile every time I walk past it.

They are super easy to make. You just take self covering buttons that you get at a fabric store, cover them in fabric scraps, break off the button loop off the back with pliers and hot glue a magnet on. Once you make one, you are addicted and the whole project is over way too soon. I ran out of magnets way before I was ready to be done. Next time I’m buying the self covering buttons in bulk online because buying them in sets of four at the fabric store is a total fail.

I probably seem ridiculous with my frivolous little crafts, but I’m telling you, they won’t end here. I have another burp cloth project calling my name that I’m trying my best to not allow myself to dive into until after my print deadline is over. We shall see….

PS The art projects posted on the board were both made by Miles at the Barnes & Noble story time. Did you know they have a free story time at the Jefferson Pointe Barnes & Noble every Monday at 10 AM and I think Thursday at 10 AM as well? After a few stories, they always have a cute little craft to do and then they open up the train table for the kids. I tried taking Miles there last year when he was just 2 and it was insanity. I actually got poked in the eye with a purple marker once. But now that’s he’s 3, it’s perfect and I’m happy we have re-discovered it. Don’t expect to meet too many new mom friends though. Most of them have their faces and thumbs glued to cell phones during story time. (Amazingly, for the most part, I try to refrain, which I’m sure is pretty hard to believe.) Hey, it’s all good. I mean, who has time for any more play dates with new friends anyway? I mean, especially when there’s fabric covered buttons to make!

Thanks for letting me share my obsession with cute little brightly colored fabric objects. This new found nesting urge has really been a lot of fun. I just wish there were more hours in the day.

These are super cute! You just might inspire me to put together a new art display in our kitchen. These look like they’re just my craft-speed (love to sew but crafty I’m not).
