Oh this boy. I love him so much.

Glassesmiles

The latest things that Miles is doing (and we are doing with him):

We read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs twice a day and listen to it on CD about 3 times a day. He knows alllll the words and corrects you if you say the wrong thing. He craves toast when we get to the part where they build houses out of oversized bread.

He’ll tell you who wrote the book Corduroy and of course, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and will ask if you know about Corduroy’s pocket.

He LOVES to run and will hold our hand and run “super fast” without stopping for our entire walking route, but is also content to sit in the stroller for a ride.

He knows where Russia, Greenland, Finland, South Africa, The United States, Canada and China are. Thank God somebody in this house does. 😉

He still loves to pick from our neighbor’s garden (which at this point in the summer when the gardens are overflowing, its a welcome chore) and his favorite name to give a stuffed animal is Cilantro.

Upon seeing a poster of a runner at a shoe store he said, “I want to run like that someday.”

Miles is definitely a tiny Ellsworth (my dad.) My dad is an engineer and naturalist, which makes him a lover of the finest details, discovering how things work and nature. My dad LOVES to talk about the knowledge he knows with anyone around him and Miles is no exception. A waiter that comes to our table or neighbor walking by will hear him recite the full names of a dozen butterflies and birds. His favorite is the Japanese Emperor butterfly and his favorite bird is a cardinal.

While at the library, Miles gave his books to the librarian and said, “I would like to borrow these please.” He then asked me if he could get his own library card. I asked the librarian how old you have to be and Miles said, “Two. You have to be two.” Man, this kid already knows how to work it.

He loves to sing and make up songs about his cars. Oh and my oh my does he love his cars. These phrases are often overheard while he plays with matchbox cars and make me smile: “This car is pretty wonderful.” and “Hi guys, how are you doing?”

Lately Miles and I have been enjoying the last laid back days of summer before he starts pre-school next month. After I spilled half a box of oatmeal today, I turned it into a mini sandbox for him to play in at the kitchen table. He was VERY focused on his work.

Thanks for letting me go on and on about my guy. I like sitting down and writing about what he is up to these days. It helps me stay in the moment and just soak up how amazing it is to be a parent.

Boy Genius! I can’t believe he says all of these things as well as knows where some countries are! I think it’s time for a Miles’ video again, it’s been awhile! 🙂 Are you going to be o.k. with him in preschool?

Betsy, you forgotten to mention here how stinkin’ cute it is when you share something with Miles (a new car, a new fact) and his little voice answers back with an excited “Ohhhhhh” as it goes up an octave. Can’t wait to babysit! 🙂
