in the studio with the king kids

As always, no time to blog but so much to say. Dang.

Gotta run, but thought I would share our attempt at photographing our kids in the studio over the weekend. I NEVER get to the studio with my kids because it’s just insanity trying to be a mom AND photographer at the same time, at least in our non-childproof studio. I have been totally depressed about not getting Joss in the studio during the “magic age” of 6-8 months so we dropped everything and headed over to our space to give it a whirl. That little tank top (a vintage Matilda Jane piece) with the rosettes on it has been hanging in Jocelyn’s room for months waiting for her to be big enough for it and for me to photograph her in it.

Here’s what we got.

Oh and one more. Our little girl just loves clapping. It’s her new big thing to do. She is just joy, joy, joy.

Oh hey, I have some time to chat. Here’s a super quick update:

Things are going well here at the King house. Miles is slowing healing from his chronic ear infection, which is wonderful, but we still get to go visit the Ear Nose Throat specialist next week. Bless his soul he had four, yes FOUR, extremely painful shots last week on two different days as a final last attempt to rid his ears of infection before surgery is needed. Bless his soul. (and my soul as I carried 70 lbs. of kids through Lutheran hospital’s complex last week after his shot.)

Remember how I said his school saw some “red flags” in Miles’ social development? Well, we know Miles is a different kid from many, but just this weekend he went out and played and played and PLAYED with a neighbor boy his same age. Like talking, kicking balls, throwing balls back and forth, playing in the swingset and everything. We were so over joyed to see him interacting with another kid, something we had been told he wasn’t able to do. Maybe he can hear better now so he’s more social? Who knows. We just know it was SO WONDERFUL to see him reaching out to another child. Like tears in your eyes as you watch out the window wonderful. We aren’t letting anybody diagnose Miles with anything at this point, especially when we are still battling with his hearing not being 100%. I know I’m a late bloomer, so maybe Miles is too.

Jocelyn is standing now, cruising and growing up way too fast. She LOVES to clap and dance when I sing to her and is all smiles and babbles. She’s an awesome eater too! She’ll eat spinach, avacado, beans, a bit of chicken, yogurt and all sorts of fruits. We decimate floors at restaurants. Bless them for letting us through the door.

How am I doing? I’m doing great, actually. I’m past my winter blues with maybe a twinge of post partum thrown in there. I’m energized by the promise of warmer weather coming and the endless optimism of my kids is keeping me afloat on days when housework would love to pull me down. This is the time of year I would usually be in the thick of shooting adorably procrastinating seniors and I do miss that terribly. However I’m keeping my eye on the prize of being at home with these precious kids. We are heading to a beach vacation soon so I’m in the market for a new bathing suit too. (Maybe the depression will be rearing it’s ugly head again?) Anybody want to tackle that chore for me? YIKES!!!!

No more babbling for me, I’ve got kiddos calling!

Hi – thought I would stop lurking. What is it they say on the radio, “long time listener, first time caller.”?! Anyway, just wanted to say that we had a lot of trouble with our daughter and ear infections and we did end up with tubes, but the point is, she is so much better now that she can hear. It has made a world of difference for her to be off medicine and just be feeling better. So I hope for Miles and all of you that he continues to feel great and be able to hear! That is such great news.

Oh – and your kids could not be any more adorable!

At 4, our son got tubes put in his ears, and it opened up a whole new world for him. I love those skinny jeans on Miles, they make him look very grown up!

LOVE these shots of the kiddos! OMG, in that one shot of Miles he both a) looks SO grown up and b) is a dead ringer for John — right down to how he’s standing!!!

Love and miss you all! 🙂 G
