Jocelyn’s birth story video

In honor of Jocelyn’s half birthday this week, I decided to finally document her birth story. A mix of video and still photos that John and I took a the hospital, set to music. John and I made the video together and we just love it. I hope you enjoy sharing in this magical time with us as well. I’m so glad we put this together because I can only imagine how incredible this will be to watch as the years go by.

Enough chit chat from me, here’s Jocelyn’s debut:

I just can’t believe she has been here for half a year now. She is just the most precious little baby girl I could have ever dreamed we would be blessed with. We have our sweet boy and our precious little girl and our family just feels so right and so complete. Just like the first song in the video, our family truly feels like home now.

Jocelyn was born via c-section, as was Miles. However, with Miles, I really mourned the fact that I had to have a c-section. It took about two years for me to finally come to peace with the fact that he was breach and that was just the way he was meant to come into the world. This time, with Jocelyn, I accepted and owned our decision to have a c-section and even though I would have loved to have experienced natural birth, this birth story is still so incredibly beautiful to us. When Miles was born he was rushed away to the NICU right away and for various reasons I didn’t get to see him until day after he was born. With Jocelyn, I was able to hold her right away and I was able to nurse her within minutes of her birth, despite having just had surgery. That was the most amazing gift and John captured that in photos, which was yet another precious gift to me.

So even though this birth looks like the farthest thing from natural, It was still beautiful to us and everyone in the room did what they could to keep me in the moment and connected to what was happening. Also, I didn’t know what the sex of the baby was until the moment she was born, so finding out we had a girl the second I met her was one of the most exciting and amazing experiences in my life. I will never forget that moment. (Thank you to John for making me wait!)

I wasn’t sure I wanted to share this video on my blog. There are some pretty intimate images and of course, there is the whole “I have glasses on and look all puffy” excuses floating around, but it was also one of the most awesome days of my life and I love sharing that with people. Also, you know me, I’m an open book, so I’m not one to hold back.

A few of my favorite moments in the video are when I first hold and feed Jocelyn, when Miles walks in the room to see us at the hospital and I love the whole second song, titled “Five Days Old.” The only bummer about the video is we were playing classical music in the room when he came and he felt the need to whisper so as not to disturb the baby, so you can barely hear Miles’s voice. So that’s why we just dubbed music over the video and threw in a few subtitles.

Thanks so much for taking the time to watch this video. I know it’s kind of long, but hope you enjoyed her story. It’s just the beginning of what I know will be a beautiful story.

Beautiful, Betsy! It’s so nice to see someone else owning their decision to go with a C-section. After having a C-section with our first, I struggled with choosing that for our second child, too – especially since our kids are only 13 months apart and we had to make that decision so soon… In the end, I think what you said is so true – it doesn’t have to be a natural birth to be amazing and beautiful. 🙂

The moment the music started playing I got tears in my eyes! I am expecting our first baby girl in 12 days and due to previous surgery I will be having a scheduled c-section so I think I instantly related to your experience. The beautiful images you have shared capture a spectacular moment in time. Thank you for giving me a glimpse of what’s to come. You have a beautiful family!

It turned out and great something that you all will no doubt cherish. Enjoy! Oh and funny – the nurse in your nursing picture looked like she was wearing your favorite earrings – it made me laugh. Seriously though I love nursing pictures- I have them of my children, such an amazing thing to nourish you child in such a way!

Aww! My second was transverse when I went into labor and so was born by emergency c-section. I mourned this too for quite some time. It’s nice to know others have gone through the same. Love the idea of a video birth story 🙂

Really wonderful! Had me tearing up.. especially when Miles came in to see the baby. I am expecting my second baby boy in about a month, and also have an almost 4 year old boy, so it really hit home.

Darling video…so many precious moments captured. I was able to go in an photograph my sister in laws c section and I was just so moved. I made her little photo video a year ago and just shared it a few days ago on my blog as the baby just celebrated her 1st bday!

I watch it over and over. Miles is such a treasure and we are so in love with each other..I can’t go very many days without him in my life…AND now Jossy…I have to kinda downplay being with her, which is very hard, cause I am Miles Grandma and Jossy is Mommy’s baby and he reminds me of that often…When I do have Jossy in my arms, Miles can find all kinds of ways to get my attention. It is the most wonderful time of my day…to spend it at the 4 Kings..I started surprises in my purse long time ago..Miles is very patient and mannerly, but in time he always remembers..if not in the purse, He wonders if maybe there is a surprise in the car…He wants to see me lots!!! he he he I love conversations with him,We talk lots..He is 4 going on 40! as most of you know. He informed me that the water on the outside of his glass was condensation.

This is beautiful. That first song, “Feels Like Home,” has had a special place in my heart for years, and it’s the song I want to dance to at my wedding someday. Thank you for sharing your life with your readers!

As a photographer, I love seeing her birth story told through the photos. As soon as the music started, so did the crocodile tears. I have actually hired someone to document our baby girl’s birth (in just a few weeks), and this totally reconfirms that decision. I know you’ll treasure these memories always. Congrats again!
