miles & his balance bike

Remember the balance bike that Miles got for Christmas? (It doesn’t have pedals. It helps kids learn balance first, then pedaling.) Well, he has been out riding it in full force. Check him out!

We walk the dogs a lot, so we have plenty of opportunities to get out as a family and let Miles give that bike a whirl.

We let him try out the bike path outside our neighborhood. Think we are crazy? Perhaps we are, but the kid was insatiable with wanting to ride that thing and that path is so nice and new. He can’t get enough of gliding down that hill, even though he has fallen once on that path, which you’ll see in the video below.

John is the best dog owner ever. He walks those dogs rain or shine and on a good day, they get three walks in. Isn’t he the best?

At one point, Miles dropped his bike and then sat on the side of the path to watch the pond and trees for a while. I think he looks adorable sitting there taking a little break.

As soon as he got enough scenery in, he was off again, with dad, Joss and pugs in tow. I think he’s always making a face when he’s riding his bike because I think he’s often making little sounds, “Mouse and the Motorcycle” style.

I asked Miles to pose for me. He gave me 1/2 a second to turn my camera on and point at him before he was off. BTW, that vest is a hand me down from his favorite buddy, Logan. It’s about two sizes two big, but not according to Miles.

Dad says, “Stop, look and listen.” We have taken him on walks all throughout his life so he is amazingly really good at stopping at the street every time. I know they say you can’t trust a child’s peripheral vision at this age, but he really does amaze us with his ability to understand the difference between the street and the sidewalk and when to stop.

Coming mom?

If you look closely, you’ll see that the handle bars are pointed backward. That is the way Miles likes to ride his bike and there is no telling that boy there is any other way!

Here’s a little video of all of us on a spring walk with Miles on his balance bike. His Kazam balance bike is seriously the BEST thing! He is addicting to riding it and it’s been a great thing especially since we walk our dogs so much. As with a lot of my favorite baby or kid gear, I just wish we had bought it a year earlier. (Though I did choose red knowing that it will be passed on to Jocelyn someday.)

such a cutie patootie! those push bikes are hugely popular over here in switzerland and it’s wonderful to see them making their way to the US, too – they’ve been around for a while, i know, just not as popular. they are such fantastic way for children of any age to begin learning how to ride a bike. bravo miles!! 🙂

I LOVE this post! It’s so cute to see Miles in action. And to see John being a proud papa! I feel like I can’t remember a lot of things from being 6 and under, but I do VIVIDLY remember my dad teaching me how to ride my brother’s old hand-me down BMX bike (it was black with studded tires – HA!). I was SO proud when he let go of the back and I was cruising on my own!! 🙂

So AWESOME!!! My son would be crazy jealous of that helmet, and that song is my favorite from that album (and Grady would say Peace Like a River is his, hehe). Grady had a similar bike called a skuut that he got for his 2nd birthday and I credit it completely with his transition straight to a 2 wheel bike. Oh and the dogs around here would also be jealous of all those walks. Just love everything about this post! =)
