our scrub afternoons with miles

Poor John, I’m posting a photo of him in scrub mode. Oh man, talk about scrub mode, that has been SO me lately! I have only been chatting with clients either online or on the phone so unless I’m beautifying myself for the checkout lane at Meijer, it hasn’t been a huge priority. The thing I LOVE about winter is I can hide a headful of un-did hair under a hat. Though it’s getting so warm so quickly, that I about had heat stroke as I shopped incognito under at hat at Von Maur last weekend. Moving on from bad hair days, and John knows I can talk ad nauseam about my hair woes, another reason for John and I being in scrub mode is we have actually been going to the gym and working out these days. I’m talking cardio machines, a bit of running, sit ups and weights. It’s kind of a miracle. I quit the fitness center cold turkey years ago and swore my soul to yoga for eternity, so this is huge for me. I MISS my yoga studio so much, but gosh darn it, I needed something more family friendly. I swear, joining the Y felt like getting a minivan. It’s kinda cramping my style, but best for our family. (And NO, I don’t have a minivan…yet.) So, since we work from home, we sometimes wait until after the gym to beautify ourselves for the day. We are a lovely pair.

Pretty much the majority of my photos these days are of John reading to Miles. Miles can’t get enough and we can’t say no. My mom cracked me up by saying, as she was leaving, “Don’t ask me for another story because I can’t say no.” It’s so true. He has this precious little squeaky voice and is very earnest and very polite. Try to say no to, “Read this book please.” or “More stories please!”

We love reading to him, but we have some books that we always kind of groan when he wants us to read to him. My personal groaner is “Go Dog Go.” Oh my gosh, that book makes me want to stick my finger in my eye! (Though John is growing to enjoy it.) Miles loves it, of course. I get super excited when he wants to read this book, Miles knows it almost all by heart:

Ok, enough for my mini book review. I’m heading to bed. Nighty night! Thanks for stopping in. Things should be getting more interesting around here very soon!

sara - I refuse to drive a minivan as well Betsy. :) Ella’s favorite book right now is “Don’t let the Pigeon Drive the Bus”, when she was Miles’ age I loved reading her Sandra Boyton books…they are so cute and rhymey (I don’t think rhymey is a real word but lets pretend).

p.s. I couldn’t help but notice the Children’s Place socks, those are the only kind I get for Ella! They don’t lose their elasticity like most other brands.

Amanda - I am so cracking up about the go dog go comment! I know! The first time I read it, I thought “this book is insane” and we just laughed AT it. Somehow, we got an old copy for free and Bugga ADORES it, so we’ve come to a place where it’s more like we’re laughing WITH the book, like that old kooky friend that just always makes you shake your head over their antics. ;) “I do…I like that party hat” HAHAHA.

Anyway, I love scrub mode, I really don’t like to wear anything but sweats around the house…call me lazy! =)

Betsy - Oh, I’m sure I’ll be rockin the minivan some day. ; ) For now, since it’s just the 3 of us, we are all good.

April Wason - I know Go Dog Go by heart now too. I hate to admit it, but I have hidden that book.

Barb Zabel - Now Betsy…take a good look at your pictures. It seems to me that Miles is reading to John! :-)

Erin - I used to swear off the minivan, too… but now I’m begging for one! And yes, why does Von Maur always keep it like 89* in there?

April - Hooray for reading! Jack is the EXACT same way. We could read to him 24 hrs. a day & it still wouldn’t be enough. Seriously, how’re you supposed to tell your kid no, when they ask you to read to them? Especially when it has a sweet please added on? Aren’t we lucky to have such “problems”?
