rookie parenting adventure # 384

Miles has changed a bit from our quiet little guy who sits and looks through books to a full on toddler that needs to run and explore in a major way everyday. So today we decided to see if Science Central was up for an invasion of our little guy Miles. When the woman at the door asked if we had ever been there, we answered no and she smiled and said we would have fun. She didn’t give us a heads up at all that 2 feet into the kid’s area there was a 12 foot long water table complete with two waterfalls and toy boats. We were blissfully walking in, taking it all in when Miles literally ran right up to the water table and laid himself on top of it. Yep, full belly, legs and arms IN the water table. Miles has no fear and when fun is involved, no restraint. We were horrified, but quickly realized that it’s just a super fun thing to do, and honestly, we were wondering how the other kids were restraining themselves.

We figured he was already wet, so we let him play and I busted out my camera. I am sure the other parents thought we were nuts. Maybe he was the only 2 year old there, but the other kids just weren’t as excited about the water. (Maybe they had been there many times.) So we are kind of wondering if we are “those” annoying parents that give their child too much freedom or what. So oops. But hey, Miles wasn’t hurting anybody or screaming, so I’m listing it up there with the “no harm, no foul” category of parenting adventures. We learned for next time to be prepared for the awesome water table. Look how happy he was! Once we got over the embarrassment of our kid being the only one fully enjoying the water table, we had a blast watching his glee.

Look at how SOAKED he got. Amazingly, we weren’t complete idiot rookie parents the whole time because I had packed a spare outfit for him to change into. The plastic aprons were kind of a joke.

He did take a break from the water table to go rock out Tom Hanks ala “Big” style now and then.

He had a great time and we all ended up napping the rest of the afternoon. We’ll be back, but I’m definitely bringing our own rain jacket next time.

that is awesome – don’t worry about the other parents – most of them are pretty lame – let ’em splash – he looks like he was having the time of this life!

What a fun time! The pic of Miles splashing is awesome. Hey you have to let him live it up while he’s young, right?!

Nothing to be ashamed of there! I used to take all four of my kids, with changes of clothing, and just sit back and watch ’em got to water-town. It was great for an afternoon of fun.

That looks like it was such a blast!! As a “seasoned” parent (ha, what a joke!) I would have done the exact same as you! Kids are kids, clothes can be washed 😀

TOO TOO cute. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. My son is 5 and we just went to one of these kind of places and he was not as exuberant as yours but there were these two darling girls who were as soaked or more so than your little man. Even though they were strangers, I totally snatched some fun filled shots.

I love it!!! Thank you for the reminder to pack extra clothes! We’re headed to the Children’s Museum tomorrow (unless crazy snow hits) and needed that reminder!

How fun is that?!?! Great shot you got too! At least you had extra clothes. I’m not sure if I would have even thought of that. 🙂
