the nursery…getting there?

Ok, so I’ve been spending the majority of my nesting time on Miles’ room and not so much the nursery. Probably seems a bit odd, but honestly, I’ve never had big ideas about what to do in Miles’ room and it’s all finally coming to me now. I can’t wait to share photos. (I FINALLY was able to order the two 24×36 prints for his room…more on that soon!) I think it’s finally easy for me to plan his room because I know his personality so well now. When he was a baby, it was all still coming together.

No wonder I’m once again at such a loss as to what to do in the nursery for this next baby. I don’t even know what sex the baby is, let alone what their little soul is like. So my goal in putting the nursery together was to use what I could from what I already had and down the road, once I get to know this little guy or girl, I can start over with something new.

In the nursery we had these three fabric wrapped canvases above the dresser. (I think the blue one is usually in the middle…) The frames have photos of Miles in them, but I still need to update them with either some fun etsy prints or photos. I’ve already replaced the banged up lampshade. It’s fallen off the dresser about 96 times when Miles would kick it during diaper changes.

Canvases

Another existing thing the nursery had was a 20×20 canvas I painted for Miles when I was pregnant with him.

Beforepainting

So I decided to take scraps left over from the fabric wrapped canvases, plus some additional fabrics I found to go with them (NOT easy to find!) and quilt them together to cover the painting. Now, Martha Stewart says you are supposed to make sure you use all the same thickness of fabrics when quilting and I now see why. That was hard to do, plus I was so antsy about getting things done that I sewed it way too fast. So it’s not perfect, but that’s really more my style anyway.

Quilt

Once it was done, I was like, “Ehhh…..I’m not totally feeling it.” So I decided to add some buttons from my vintage stash and hope for the best.

Closeupquilt

I’m still not sure I’m totally thrilled with it. I look at it and think, “Hmmmmm, do I like it or hate it?” My feelings are very mediocre about it. However, at this point, I’m going to keep it and we’ll see what inspires me once King Baby 2.0 comes. It was fun making it, so I have happy feelings about that part of the project.

I do have a non-handmade item to share that I have for the nursery. I found this mobile at a yard sale, still new in it’s box, that I thought fit the vibe of the room. Miles’ mobile was really big, bright, electronic and much more visually stimulating, but the thing was so loud and the music was so ouchy to our ears that we are happy to have a simple (and much more quiet) little wind up mobile this time around. I’m figuring that Miles will make up for any stimulation and noise lost from not having that same mobile that Miles had.

So I’m going to be looking for some baskets to organize stuff and for some kind of big sturdy basket to keep baby toys and books in the nursery. Of course, for the first month or so, the baby is in our room, so as we get closer to the end of July, we’ll be getting our bedroom ready with the glider and pack N play in there.

So that’s the latest with the nursery. I’m creeping up on being ONE MONTH away from our due date and my anxiety level about not having things done has had me way more stressed out then I wanted to be at this point in my pregnancy. There are just some crazy unorganized places in our house (like my office and our master closet) that I’m just totally overwhelmed by. I guess I need to chill. It’s not like our house was perfect when Miles was born.

Ok, a big part of nesting is making sure I’m physically able to do this stuff, so I need to get to bed! The baby is so active at night and my brain just doesn’t shush, so I’ve been REALLY bad at going to bed at a good time. Nighty night!

That mobile is adorable! That was one thing I put off buying, and now I feel like it’s not really worth it to get one. Was that the project you needed big buttons for? So did you put the four canvases together to make one giant canvas? I still make just about all my projects too fast and end up with little “oops,” but I kind of think that’s what handmade stuff is supposed to look like 🙂 I’m so excited for you!!

Ohhh, nevermind, I get it now. 🙂

Yes Cassie, the mobile is a so not necessary item in the nursery. Was a bit of an impulse buy. 😉 Though I do wish the mobile Miles had didn’t have such awful music. He loved looking at it, it just didn’t have a mute button.

Thanks for being excited, I’m still pretty “eh” about what I made, but it’s better than looking at the Bee Happy painting for another day. 😉

I love it! Very handmade and it’s perfect. Don’t you love that urge that you get the last few months or pregnancy to be crafty. Wish I had it in me all the time! Can’t wait to see Baby 2.0 on the blog!

I love that mobile! It’s so relaxing. When I saw the first picture, I thought “That’s a weird saying to have in vinyl wall art.” Then I realized what it was.

Love what you’ve made for the nursery! The mobile is adorable. I have never seen anything like that before.
