what miles has been up to lately

Here’s a little round up of some photos I’ve had of Miles that have been hanging out on my hard drive waiting to be shared.

Miles has been into trains lately. Not Thomas, but REAL trains. Miles and John watch this video together called, “I want to be a train engineer”, so Miles knows all the train lingo. Together we put together his toys to make his own train and after trying to manuever the thing around our house, we decided to take it outside. The train video Miles likes starts out with an engineer popping out of a train and waving, so here’s Miles, doing the same thing.

He had to take it for a spin around the neighborhood, of course.

He wasn’t too thrilled when I wouldn’t hop onto to the middle coach car, but he was plenty happy that daddy obliged. These guys got plenty of smiles by passers by. John’s such a great dad. Seriously, he’s so amazing.

It used to be that a quiet house meant Miles was into some trouble, like dumping my sewing box all over the floor or ripping open an entire box of band-aids. Lately it’s meant that he’s quietly reading a book or listening to music. (Phew! A break from drama is NICE!) Here he is getting caught reading to himself.

Miles gets a magazine in the mail every month and at 7 AM, even before breakfast, Miles begged me to make him the finger puppets out of the back. So sleepy eyed I cut out the tiny pieces and assembled them for him and we played with them for hours. When daddy came home, he was so excited to play puppets with him and create a story. When he draws pictures or plays with toys you can’t call it drawing or play, he always says he is “making a story” and he most certainly is. We LOVE hearing the stories he creates in that little brain of his.

Last Friday was our last day of Kindermusik for the year. So sad! We LOVE our Kindermusik teacher, Miss Cindy. She has the most amazing way of taking Miles’ unique personality and knows just how to work with him, making him feel great about himself and his achievements. She’s one of those people who makes you just feel like your kid is the most amazing kid in the world. (I feel that way when I’m around my mom and my good friends who think Miles is a genius. Of course, I always feel that way, but when other people think your kiddo is awesome, it just makes you feel great.) He’s on the shy side at preschool, but at Kindermusik he is so outgoing, expressive and totally in his element. I wish they had an entire preschool program.

Well that’s a big ‘ol random round up of some stuff Miles has been up to lately. I have a million other things to blog about and I’m hoping to get to that soon. I have ONE LAST straggler on my Betsy King Photography to do list before I’m officially on my maternity leave.

Have a great memorial day everybody!

PS My next goal is to get Miles in the studio and do a little shoot of him. I’m posting this here so I actually get him there and DO IT! It’s not easy to be a mom AND photographer at the same time, especially in a studio setting, so I haven’t done it as much as I thought I would. I need to break that bad habit though! Oh, and I want to somehow do a self portrait shoot of my belly at the studio. I’m feeling so great now (finally!) and my belly just feels like a basketball under my shirt, so I want to get some photos before the summer heat turns me into a big ‘ol swelled up balloon. At least that’s what every passerby keeps telling me. Ugh! Why are people so negative? Just about every day somebody says, “Oh, summer baby, huh? Wow, that’s gonna suck!” Nice, huh? Ok, I’ll save the belly talk for a chick chat. I have one of those due soon too. : )

You should check out Ikea for their little wooden train sets. My son is CRAZY about his. It’s pretty simple and really plain so I don’t know if Miles is too big for that, but it’s definitely worth a look 🙂 I love the ones of him cruising the neighborhood! Too cute!!

I love seeing Miles at play. Gives me lots to look forward to with my little boy. And you’re right, it is so difficult to be a photographer and parent at the same time. My biggest regret so far: not hiring someone to do newborn photos. I thought it would be such a fun time and so great to experiement. It was just so overwhelming. What is that saying? The cobblers children never have any shoes.
