betsy’s last minute gift guide

The web is bursting full of great gift guides for hip, cool and chic shoppers full of obscure etsy sellers and online boutiques. You won’t find that here, but you WILL find gifts you can snag last minute, sometimes locally, perhaps with even free shipping and in some cases, less than ten bucks. Yay!

So come take a little stroll through Target and Amazon.com with me to find some things I would love to give (ok, and in most cases I would love to get) this holiday season. Since I’m a grown up now, Christmas is not about me, so instead of making a list out to Santa, I figured I might give you guys some ideas for the people on your lists.

A fun purse! Target: $34.99

Purse

I love to give a wonderfully soft and fuzzy throw blanket with a fun movie and some theater candy tucked into the ribbon. I call it a movie night kit. This blanket is crazy soft. They have them as low as $9.99 at Target. This one is perfect for snuggling up to a movie under. Great movies to consider pairing with this gift are: Horribal Bosses, Super 8, Bridesmaids, a classic movie like An Affair to Remember or a Christmas movie you know they love.

Throwblanket

Hooded towells for kids. LOVE THEM. So fun! Case in point.

For the new parents, give Stemless Wine Glasses. Little hands knock over tall stemmed wine glasses, so they get broken so much easier. Throw in your favorite bottle of wine too, of course! No need to go pricey here, remember, this is going to new parents, they are just happy to have wine. Amazon.com: $12.

Miles found this Flying, Screaming sling shot Monkey in a catalog and put it on his list. Guess what? I found it on Amazon.com for $2.09 plus $2 shipping. Hopefully nobody shoots their eye out with that thing.

I’m personally dying for this fuzzy body pillow cover. I slept with one while at a friend’s house recently and it was like sleeping with ten snuggly pugs, minus the shedding and snorting. Target, $9.99. There are many styles, but this white fur is my pick.

Bodypillow

A great little neutral winter hat. Target, probably around $10.

Miles is a FREAK about pirates right now and he loves puppets. Look what I found! All of the Melissa and Dough puppets are wonderful. (Thank you for those last year Uncle Jeff and Aunt Wendy!)

Pirate Puppet: $14.99 Amazon.com

These grown up “underoos” for your hubby would surely be a crowd pleaser on Christmas morning or a hilarious gag gift. You know he’ll secretly love them. Found in the store at Target in the Men’s dept.

Underwear

These Phineas & Ferb slippers make me smile with their little menacing eyes peeking out from under that stuffed hat. Miles saw these while shopping the other day and thought they looked awesome. (Phineas & Ferb is a Disney Cartoon in case you are kid free.) I think Miles liked them at first because they looked a bit like Angry Birds. Found at Target in the shoe/slipper dept.

Slippers

This one is a bit pricier, but John and I have new bed sheets on our list. Wouldn’t we all love a new set? These 600 count Egyptian cotton sheets caught my eye at Target. This could actually be a sexy gift for your spouse if you coupled it with a little suggestive eye brow raise and a wink across the living room on Christmas morning.

Sheets

A Pug Onesie for the little pug lover in your life. (And let’s face it. Who ISN”T a pug lover?) Gap: $19.95

Pug

This is a personal one, but this would be a nice gift from mom’s to daughters, or from hubby’s? (Or for yourself?) It’s my favorite bra EVER. Target sells out of them often, so grab ’em while you can. You can wear it under shirts where you need some extra coverage, like a tank top or a lower cut dress. I think they are around $34.00 found in the store at Target.

Bra

Offer to babysit! Or get this even better gift: Pre-Pay a Babysitter. An out of town friend called my teenage babysitter one year and pre-paid her for a night of babysitting! My sitter then called me up to tell me that I had four hours of babysitting already paid for. That blew my mind! My friend got the babysitter’s info from my husband and mailed her a check. Genius, right?

Need a co-worker or teacher gift? My favorite candle from Target is this clean, soy candle that comes in a pretty little tin. My favorite scent is Lemon Verbeena.

Candle

Tangled, on DVD: $19.99 Great movie for the whole family, plus a little bit of girl power going on. All of the Kings loved it. Can’t wait to show it to Joss when she’s older.

Of course Target has a million cute options for stationary as well. That’s always a fun gift or stocking stuffer for young adults.

Paper

Last Christmas my mom got me a Coffee/Espresso combo maker from Macy’s and it was a life changing gift. Thanks mom! You can use it to steam milk for hot chocolate too, so we all loved it.

Coffee

To wrap things up, this is for all you coffee loving parents out there, an adorable wooden coffee maker for your kiddos. Amazon: $22.87

How fun is this? Like Maya, I too ordered the monkey for Jack. I’m sure I’ll regret it, but he’ll love it. Also, I have those same sheets & they’re pretty great. You know, if you were looking for a review 🙂

Wish I would have seen you walking around Target taking random pics of things..I am sure you looked a lot less awkward than I did in Tuesday Morning though! 😉 Love that brand of candles too! Smells so good and cute!
