happy (belated) halloween!

It started with a monkey. A garage sale find from my mother-in-law months ago. Miles fell in love with it and we had some fun in the studio with it. So since June, we have known that Miles would be a monkey, Curious George to be exact, for Halloween.

Here he is last summer, just playing around in the studio:

Naturally, John would be the man in the yellow hat and me? A banana. Jocelyn’s outfit was admittedly an afterthought, but a snuggly one, her pink bear sweatsuit. Oh and if you haven’t realized this, I have NO problem looking nerdy on Halloween. I love it. The nerdier the better. I’ve given up looking sexy on Halloween years ago. (Though I’ll tell you, the last sexy costume I wore I won a prize with John at a bar party, so I finished that era strong!)

But now I’m a mom, wearing the mom costume and it’s a blast. Look at our kid’s faces. Halloween is for kids right? Righhhhhhht.

Compared to last year’s costume that we sewed ourselves, we feel like we phoned this year’s costume in with store bought costumes, but considering we just had a baby, we didn’t beat ourselves up too much. Plus, the ease of these costumes meant we could all dress up, which really added to the fun. Halloween here starts at 5, which is always hard for us to be dressed and fed in time and Miles was still groggy from napping in the afternoon, so the fun didn’t start until about the last 45 minutes of the night when he really woke up. So most of our photos were taken in almost complete darkness.

Look at this little cutie I encountered while trick or treating.

Miles pretended to eat the banana and he thought it was HILARIOUS. It was adorable.

More neighborhood dogs, stealing my heart:

Every year we are seriously the last people trick or treating, walking home past houses with lights out and kids inside probably taking baths and calling it a night. We ramble home, wishing Halloween didn’t end so early. Here we were, at the last house of the night.

Before we were done, Miles did some Jack O lantern gazing. (We only had time to make two pumpkins this year. I usually carve every pumpkin we have. Not as much free time this year.)

Here’s a little slideshow of our evening, set to my favorite Halloween song, Monster Mash:

Hope you had a fun Halloween, we absolutely did. I have always loved this time of year. I think just the act of creating a costume is most of the fun for me. I still have pumpkins, ghosts and bats up around my house. I’m just not ready to let go of all the fun yet! I hear that Starbucks is going to start using their red holiday cups tomorrow, so I suppose if I want to stay in my halloween bubble one more day, I better just hide out at home. All good things must come to an end, and if this past year is an indication, next Halloween will be here before we know it and we’ll get to have fun all over again.

Halloween is always the best, cause I get to spend it with the Kings.. I should have worn my complete outfit..but Miles said I was beautiful anyway..I got in a little snuggling with Jocelyn too. Maybe we should dress up like Pilgrims for Thanksgiving….Miles could be a turkey!!

OMG. I was working up until the last minute on the EXACT same idea! Only my hat didn’t turn out so we scrapped it at the last minute and made Henry a scarecrow. You guys look adorable!

From now, whenever I’m having a down day, I’m just going to look for that profile pic of you from Facebook in your banana costume, proceed to LMAO, and then go on with it with a big smile on my face 🙂
