our father’s day weekend

For Father’s Day this year, I got John and Miles matching water guns and a bunch of water balloons with the idea of throwing a little backyard waterfight party for John. (Just call me big spender Betsy!)

Miles was SO excited that just seeing the excitement on Miles’ face when he had the gifts for his daddy was gift enough for John. (Which was awesome!) We all had an absolute blast playing with the water guns and balloons (I hear my belly is a pretty irresistible target) but my camera stayed inside and stayed dry. So no pics of the fun, which is a bummer because John and Miles were so cute playing. There are PLENTY of awesome mental images that are stored in my heart from this past weekend though, and I know John does as well. He said it was the best Father’s Day ever. Yippee!!! Success!

On Sunday, my dad had the great idea to head up to Michigan and take a little steam engine ride for fun. My whole family went along and John got a bonus Father’s Day treat. Look at how Miles’ blankie is thrown over John’s shoulder. It still makes an appearance from time to time.

John LOVED hearing Miles tell him all about all the different parts of the train.

Here’s a little flashback from last fall when we took Miles to the train station and John took this photo. So I had to grab a quick photo of John with Miles there too. Look how much he has grown!

The train departed right at Miles’ usual nap time, so he was pretty sleepy, but he still was awake enough to do his signature wave out the window, just like what the train engineer does. It was ADORABLE. He was either waving out the window, pulling the imaginary horn or fighting sleep in his seat.

Even though I had my camera along, I didn’t get a photo of Miles with my dad! Ugh. My Baby Brain strikes again. It was H O T that day and not the easiest trip for a woman in her third trimester, so I didn’t have photo taking on the brain at all.

We had a great Father’s Day weekend and hope you all did too. I am so thankful for John and his laid back, loving and sensitive way he loves both me and Miles. Even though I tend to stress and freak out when things get wonky, he always keeps his cool. I’m very, very thankful for that. He always takes the time to play puppets with Miles and takes care of the marathon night time bathtime ritual for Miles before crashing himself at the end of the day. He’s been working so hard these days staying focused on making sure he can be there for Miles and I when the baby comes that I’m just in awe of him. He’s such a good, good guy. So grateful he’s Miles’ dad.

This has to be one of my favorite posts of all time! I LOVE the pics of Miles on the train and especially the one where he is staring out the train and his cute profile and he is looking so serious;__) I swear John looks like one of the happiest fathers I’ve ever seen!!! His emotions are just all over his face;) HAPPY FATHER’S DAY JOHN;)

    Betsy,

Every time I see that little blankie I made for Miles in one of your posts, it warms my heart. I cannot believe how much he loves that simple little piece of crocheted work.In fact, I cant believe it has held up so well. I love reading your blog, and seeing all of your wonderful photos.

Watching John with Miles makes me SO excited to watch Jason with Avram as he gets older. Major props to you for making that trip…I could barely handle the 5 minute train ride to school during my third trimester…let alone a steam engine ride & a car ride to MI! Good for you! 🙂
