smoke signal (though I really hate smoke)

Hi! I’m still here. I promise! Well, someone resembling Betsy is here. Last year I was trekking through the snow in my brand new Uggs and shootsac shooting away and never stopped to exhale from 2007. Looking back, I was completely exhilarated by the newness of my business and supercharged with excitement to get out and shoot anything and everything that I could.

Oh, that sweet Betsy from last winter. I pat her head as she is just so sweet and eager. That girl is still in here, but this new girl has come along. The inner responsible nerd in me (that wears Kitty cat sweatshirts and Keds) is making me stay inside to get the boring, yet important stuff done too. So while the crazy, eager and excited photographer in me has been satiated a bit by photographing life around my house, my nerd has me busy attending webinars, watching tutorials and reading much more than my attention span really allows to learn my new software so I’m fully organized once my season starts.

Also, I’m going to be changing my business name soon and that means re-creating lots of stuff. (Yes, that little tid bit of info is a bit of foreshadowing into what is yet to come.) Sooooo, that means that my energy that goes to blogging has been sucked up by the annoying Kitty cat sweatshirt wearing nerd. She’s really very sweet and well meaning that inner nerd of mine. Too bad I don’t let her eat at my lunch table or go shopping with me. Poor inner nerd is stuck watching movies and listening to music with me only when no one is watching.

I will say, I have been stock piling some major Miles time. I think every year I’m going to just give myself this dead of winter time to soak up my time with Miles before the rush of spring, summer and fall come. So that leads me to finally share a photo today, taken by John. It’s a miracle I relaxed and just let him photograph me straight out of the shower like this without protesting. This is so Miles, not really snuggling because he’s so excited to be on our bed that he wanted to hop around like a bunny.

You’ll notice I need to get some photos up on the wall. (I really need to do that now, before I start shooting…) We painted our bedroom last fall and it went from the most oppressive, postpartum depression-inducing forest green to this light pretty (and yes, I know, overly used) powder blue and tan. Ahhhh, it’s so much lighter and prettier now!

In other news, I met a new friend at the library today for a first play date with Miles. Who knew how hard it would be to watch your child AND try to have a conversation. Not any conversation either. It’s like a first date, to see if you guys are going to hang out again and perhaps be friends. So you have to try to be witty, make good conversation and not seem like a wreck of a mom in public making sure your kid isn’t causing a problem or running out the playroom door. (Let me just add that I did not succeed in keeping Miles from running out the door, but that’s another story and I’ll leave that one to Child Protective Services to tell.) It’s good to get out though and chill with another mom who’s trying to keep up with a two year old just like me. Having Miles has been like a cool person magnet for new friends. I figured I would have Miles and my social life would disappear. Nope, not the case at all. I’m assuming this trend will continue. Hope so. 🙂

By the way, do you all already know what Twitter is? I was thinking of explaining it in a blog post, but if you already do, than I won’t. Though perhaps I’ll still explain it, so my mom can finally get it. (My Twitter update is located in the categories in the top if you want to know what I’m thinking or doing when I’m not blogging. I know you are just on the edge of your seat, huh?)

Hey, good luck with everything…slogging thru the biz end of stuff can really suck time, can’t it? But in the end, it seems worth it, too.

And really, you look that put together straight from the shower??? I’m envious. 😉 Good luck staying focused!!

I am so excited to find out what the new name is going to be! I know what twitter is, and think its fun to check out what people are doing from time to time.

You totally just described me perfectly, of you last year, wanting to out and shoot everything. I’m sure the biz aspect can get old and i’m eager to see what you have coming up for this season! Totally agree about the social life with kids, its crazy! I meet and make so many more friends when I have Oliver with me, kids can be such an icebreaker! But yeah good luck on having a conversation and watching them play! Do you all have a Monkey Joes? So much fun!

Btw, love your lamps! Where are they from?

It is funny how having a kid changes your friendship circles. I totally agree on the play date though, it’s so hard to have a conversation with the adults! 🙂
