I love Instagram, and if you follow me on Twitter or my personal Facebook page, you’ll see that I post quite often. It’s usually a photo of one of my favorite things in my world, my kids, or my pugs. I love following what my friends are doing and the Instagram blog that I post most of my photos to throughout the day from my phone has been invaluable to my out of town in-laws. In a nutshell, iphone + Instagram = awesome. I can’t wait to look back on these twenty years from now. I have a fun group of friends/photographers I “know” on Instagram and I enjoy laughing or ooohing and ahhhing over everybody’s photos throughout the day when I check in.

Anyway, last night John was at a movie and I was thrilled to climb into bed to watch my favorite show with a bowl of ice cream and two pugs at my side. To share this grand event, I snapped what I knew would be a rather inferior photo, but it would share with the world what I was up to. (Because all the world is a reality show, don’t you know?) So the next morning I checked my Instagram comments and I couldn’t believe that crappy photo had my friends talking.

People kept telling me that my pugs together looked like a weird little cow/calf creature. Eventually something like 19 comments popped up of people agreeing that yes, the combination of my two pugs looked like a cow in bed with me.

I had NO idea what they were talking about, so I told my super awesome and hilarious online friend, Janica, who spearheaded this whole pug/creepy cow movement, that she would have to draw the cow on the photo before I’ll understand what she was talking about.

A few hours went by and lo and behold, she drew the cow and posted it to Facebook. I passed it around Miles’ music class tonight and everybody saw the cow, deeming it hilarious and totally weird. I still couldn’t see the cow. All I saw was Stamp, who yes, had big cow eyes, but did not look like an actual cow. It wasn’t until later that evening, after frustratingly staring at it, that I FINALLY SAW THE COW and DIED laughing! It’s the WEIRDEST thing ever and seriously looks like a real cow, complete with the right hair texture. So weird, I HAD to blog about it. I can’t believe that my iphone made such a freaky optical illusion without even trying!

Ok, so do you see the cow? You can see the original photo and Janica’s illustration here. She admitted to being a bit liberal with the cow ears for effect. (I actually think the ears, which is actually Stamp’s muzzle, flop down.) If you can’t see the cow, keep trying. It’s crazy when you finally do see it.

The moral of the story here, is that my friends and I spend WAYYYYY too much time on our iphones and it’s a blast. Love my virtual world of hilarious people. (I also love the real life ones that laugh along with me!)
