vintage shopping at Possibilities, Auburn

I photographed the cutest store last weekend, owned by three very creative women and I’m so excited to share it with you. The name of the store is Possibilities, which is perfect, because just walking around the shop you can’t help but find so many things that you can imagine all sorts of “possibilities” in your own home. I found colorful magazine racks that I need for our bathrooms, a side table for my upstairs reading chair and of course a little cabinet for Jocelyn to store her little “treasures” in. (Miles has a treasure cabinet, so eventually, Joss will need one too.) I’m pacing myself though, so instead of going on a crazy shopping spree, I got to have fun photographing them. (You are welcome, John.)

The owners of the shop find and transform all sorts of different furniture pieces from all over and make them new again with pretty paint colors, new hardware and sometimes fabric. They have rounded up all sorts of other decorative and fun items that mesh well with their vintage furniture. I really struggle with picking paint colors, but these ladies make it seem so easy. One of the owners I spoke to said they search for things that need new life breathed into them and avoid painting antique items that are valuable just as they are. I love the idea of keeping the integrity of historical pieces, but finding a great way to fit vintage pieces that might be otherwise overlooked, into the homes of today.

So let’s take a look at what I found. These photos were taken on February 11th, so many of these pieces should still be available, though they do get new stock often. I’m adding some prices of pieces because it’s no fun looking at fun things you might like, without knowing the price.

That pink dresser with the oval mirror ($165) would be precious in a little girl’s room. Yes, I’m dreaming of Jocelyn’s big girl room… What could be more whimsical? Those birds are so sweet. I felt RIGHT at home with all the adorable birds nestled amongst the pieces.

Store 2

Yellow side table: $58. That blue piece with the wood top would make a great workspace or kitchen island. Ok, now I’m regretting not picking that up as a workspace in our studio…

A bird cage stand turned chalk board? LOVE IT! The creativity just flows like crazy in that place. Magazine racks are $27-$37.

Store 5

You know you are at the store when you see the adorable store front.

Store 8

So many neat details to take in while browsing. White dresser: $167

Store 3

See that white, glass-front corner cabinet? I picked that up for our bathroom to store towels and sheets. I love it! That yellow side table is very similar to the yellow we painted our piano. (Side table $58)

Store 9

All the drawers are lined with funky lining paper. It’s the little things!

Store

Look at that adorable white vanity with the pink knobs: $150. There was a sweet little girl in there checking out that set the day I was in there. It looked perfect for her. I couldn’t help but melt at how excited she was. Keyhole wall hooks: $12 each. Cute blue chair with striped seat: $37

Store 6

Funky little chalk boards for $10. Pretty little robin’s egg blue pitcher: $24.

Store 4

Store 10

Hey fellow photographers, I spy a cute little prop chair. Oh and I’m a photographer shooting amongst mirrors, so I do what any photographer would do, self portrait time!

Ok, so how much money did I just cost you? 😉 I can’t wait to go back and see what they have that’s new. If you can’t wait, you can check out their latest finds on their facebook page, which they update often with photos of pieces and their prices.

PS My first job as a teenager was working as a life guard at the Auburn pool, so driving to Auburn always brings back memories of me flying driving to work and those long summer days tanning guarding by the pool. If you know Auburn well, you know you have to stop by the Brown House for a malt on your way home of course!

I wish we had stores like this around here. The closest thing is one where the lady pays another lady to paint every single ‘antique’ item white. Everything in the store is white. I know I could repaint it but she’s charging an arm and a leg for that white furniture.

I have that “pink dresser with the oval mirror” for my 4 yr old daughter! Except it’s not pink, it’s the natural (oak?) wood. So beautiful. Easily one of my fav pieces of furniture in my house. Looks like a fun store!
