picking apples with the kings

Remember when I took photos of my friend Gail? They were for her new website coming up. Well, she came in from Muncie and took photos of my little family in return. We are her first post on her new freshly branded blog. (What an honor!)

To see all of our photos, click here to see them on Gail’s blog. Check out the blog header, while you are there. I took those pics!! Also, check out her snazzy new website. It has a few more photos I took of her. She has worked so hard creating all the pieces of her website and she has done such a great job.

I chose an apple orchard for our shoot because John and I have a little festival that we just LOVE this time of year, The Johnny Appleseed Festival. We chose our wedding date based on that weekend of the festival because the weather is always gorgeous and we just dig everything about that festival. Now we always have something sweet to do on our anniversary weekend. (It’s coming up in two weeks! Can’t wait!)

So that’s where the apple theme came from. Plus, I love the look of a long row of trees for photos. Oh, and I always loved Nie’s family photos in the orchard.

She first took some photos of me, for my own profile picture. Man, it’s so weird being in front of the camera!

Then just as she was taking theses photos of me, Miles showed up with John. So she captured him running towards me saying hello. Oh how I love this series and that sweet punkin boy.

Oh this image of our hands just melts my heart.

I wanted to post my favorite photos from the shoot on my blog, but I didn’t want to post anything without Gail’s watermark, so you’ll just have to come over and see them when they get hung up on the wall. (Now let’s see how many months it takes me to get them on my wall…)

Oh, and I did not painstakingly choose my wardrobe like my clients do. I was so nervous about the shoot that I literally threw it together the night before. Oh, and it doesn’t help that it was FREEZING that day and the outfit I had chose, just would have left me shivering. A white tank top and tee is like a security blanket for me. So I went for comfort and ease. Just wanted my clients to know I totally feel your pain on how hard it is choosing outfits, especially for a family. I will say, I’m glad I just picked my favorite comfy jeans and kept it simple. Though next time, I’m getting my hair professionally blown out. (Like I couldn’t get through this post without a hair comment!) Oh, and how stupid was I to not wear my cowboy boots? Man, I”m telling you, I just couldn’t think that day!!! Though I wore them in my last family photo, so a break is probably good.

Thank you so much Gail! I feel so blessed to have my family captured like this. Years from now, what we are wearing or my hair starting to friz, isn’t going to be what I focus on. Miles is going to be grown and living his life (being his amazingly perfect self) and John and I will have these beautiful photos of our laughter, smiles and interaction to look back on and remember this sweet time in our life.  Better yet, he’ll have them to help him tell the story of his childhood. (That’s my favorite part of all.) It all slips away so quickly, that having images like these to bottle this precious time are absolutely priceless. I’ll put up with a little wardrobe drama any day to make sure I keep doing it.

Thanks for checking these out everybody. Happy Friday! (Am I the only one wondering where this week went?)

Bets, SO glad you liked the images! It was so much fun. 🙂 And thanks for being such an encouraging friend through my re-branding process. I remember when the inspiration struck that timing-wise, I knew I could make your shoot the inaugural blog entry and well, I felt honored myself 😉 You guys are a blast to take photos of! Let’s do it again sometime, ‘kay? Maybe next time, with me, I can bring Nick along 🙂
