baby kitchens on the brain

Jocelyn’s first birthday is coming up and after years of holding off on getting a play kitchen for the King house, we finally decided to bite the bullet and grace our home with a cute little pastel blue set in honor of Joss’s big day. We’ve insisted that our house is just too small for one all of these years, but we have just decided to succumb to toy maddness, which isn’t hard to do when all this stuff is so darn cute. Jocelyn is such a busy little bee and I know Miles will have a blast with it too. Since we ordered the kitchen I’ve had my eyes out for little play kitchen things and HOLY SMOKES, there are the cutest things in the world out there for little cooks!

Here’s just a few of my favorite window shopping finds for play kitchens, which is pretty hard to narrow down with all the cute stuff out there. We only own the kitchen out of the items listed, but I’ve seen a couple of these things in real life and they all just make me smile. So cute!

Playkitchen

Shopping list:

Educo Rise’ N Shine Coffee Maker

Felt doughnuts on etsy.com

Seriously adorable felt coffee mugs from etsy.com

Smiling fruits and veggies-I’ve seen these in real life and they are the cutest thing ever.

Melissa & Doug shopping cart (Jocelyn recently played with this at a toy store and had a BLAST with it. It’s VERY well made.)

Here’s the KidKraft vintage kitchen we bought, in blue. (It also comes in white and pink. I got it on Zulily on discount. Yay!)

Honorable mentions:

We, and our kids, LOVE the Melissa & Doug Sushi Set. Miles got it from a friend when Jocelyn was born and it’s super fun.

The Melissa & Doug Cutting Food Box is super cute as well with food that velcros for play cutting.

Look how cute this wooden toaster with little pieces of toast and butter is!

I CANNOT WAIT until her birthday party to get to play, ahem, I mean watch her cook up some fun with her brother. Feel free to add your own favorite finds. We will still need to add some pots and pans to the set and all that jazz.

True story: When I was about 6, my most prized possession was the Fisher Price play kitchen I got for Christmas that year. To this day it is still the greatest toy I ever received. Not so great? That my cousins were allowed to play with it that night at family Christmas, ripping up the cardboard “food” (those SAVAGES). I got new food, but, clearly, that memory still hangs around 😉

Kitchens are THE best. They will definately play with them for a looong time! Do you have a shopping cart for food? Also a HUGE hit! (makes for a great racing car for older kids too lol)http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Only-99344-Shopper-Shopping/dp/B0000669A5/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1310611266&sr=8-6 These things are also great fun for Joss’s baby dolls : ) P.S wooden food lasts longest in my experiance with three kiddos. You wouldn’t believe what kiddos do with the cloth stuff ICK! lol So much fun in store, enjoy! I can’t believe she’ll be one already. Seems like just yesterday you were posting the good news ; )

We have that cart! If i’m feeling generous, I let the girls take it to the grocery and “help” me shop… because, let’s be honest, it’s not really helping when I’m watching out for kid cart collisions, but at least we’re having fun!

Oh, and the wooden “cutting” foods – we have those too and love them. I think the most played with food item we own is Melissa & Doug’s Cookie Set with the interchangeable frosting… or the wooden pizza kit (which might have been target).

    Enjoy!

I have been following your blog for awhile now but this is my first time commenting…it would be something involving shopping! We got our daughter a kitchen from Ikea for Christmas and she is quite a fan! Ikea has great metal pots and pans…metal silverware…a mini metal bakeware set complete with a rolling pin and cookie cutters…great plush fruits and veggies…they really have it all and as you know with Ikea it is very reasonably priced (pretty sure we got everything for under $50)! Our daughter loves that everything looks just like ours only smaller! She also has the Melissa and Doug cart and I must say it is a staple in our house! Enjoy watching them play…I know we sure do!

In my toddler class we use plastic plates and plastic “silver” ware from IKEA. It’s bright colored and very durable. And when all that yummy food has been sampled (i.e. mouthed forks and spoons),it’s dishwasher safe. We’ve had them for years.

Oh man, how cute is all that stuff? I’m especially in love with those coffee mugs! We LOVE the Melissa & Doug wooden food in our house. We have the cake, pizza, veggies & ice cream. We got all of it at either Zulily or Home Goods, so keep an eye out at both places! Can’t wait to see pictures of playtime in the kitchen 🙂
