big day for the three kings

Today we took Miles to his Pre-School Open House. As we walked up to the doors I told John that it feels just like yesterday we were going to birthing classes. I swear, you have a baby and somewhere someone hits the fast forward button on life.

I always said I wouldn’t take Miles to pre-school as early as two and a half, but man, he is SO ready. Heck, he was ready back in January when we signed up. So I’m learning that we just learn as we go with this parenting thing and my pre-conceived notions keep getting thrown out the window one by one. It was an awesome morning at the open house and we all are so excited for this next big step. Miles has been going to Kindermusik at the same building that pre-school is in for a year now, so the place was already familiar. Also, all of the ladies who staff the school are so incredibly sweet, happy and outgoing that the whole place just has a wonderful feeling.

I would say the highlight of the open house was the play kitchen. He made us “brats” (Yea, this summer we have been eating a lot of bratwurst) and he kept piling food on the baby doll’s highchair and would say, “Thank you baby!” every time he gave the doll a piece of food. John and I had a blast sitting and watching him. We could have done it all day. What a punkin!

Then, one of his teachers (there are two teachers for nine 2.5-3 year olds) came over to chat with us and she is just as sweet as she can be. (And has SO much enthusiasm!) She was telling us how she likes to bring little bits of nature in to talk about and Miles had a chance to talk about acorns with her and use her magnifying glass.

We had to tear him away and he played so hard at the open house that he fell asleep right away on our post-lunch walk.

Everybody keeps asking if I’m going to be sad when he starts class next week. I think I’m having so much fun with all of this that it hasn’t occurred to me to be sad. I really want him to grow and do new things, so this kind of stuff doesn’t bum me out. (Though, I’ll let you know how I do next week.) I suppose it’s the stuff like when he’s too big to snuggle or sit in my lap that will hurt my heart. For now, I’m just enjoying the fun of it all.

Speaking of our walk, check out our new jogging stroller. Where has this thing been all of Miles’ life? It’s nicer than the car I drive and I’m in LOVE with it. As you can see, Miles loves it too. I will say, if you have a baby, or are pregnant, buy one of these RIGHT AWAY. I whined for two and a half years wanting one of these thinking I wasn’t worthy since I didn’t run. Such a dumb thought. Go buy one right now, and don’t even bat your eyelashes at the price. It will be worth it. I’ll be blogging on this subject later.

Oh, and it’s kind of like both of my boys are going to be branching out this fall as John might be joining a brass band soon. The pre-school’s secretary is a lovely woman (with the most amazing British accent I’m extremely jealous of) whose husband is part of a brass band here in town. For a long time she has been talking to John about joining the group and he hasn’t been sure he has the time. So she approached him during the open house that they just had a spot open up and he really has been wanting to play with a band again. So he might be joining, and I’ll have some evenings to myself and a couple of concert date nights with Miles. So it might be an autumn of lots of changes, not just Miles starting school. (Thank goodness my schedule is staying the same!)

So here’s my King boys, leaving pre-school today with all sorts of big plans brewing for the fall.

I was on a roll last week posting lots of client work, but had to take a break for some personal stuff lately. There will be a big family coming up on the blog soon. I just need to get John to finish writing me some music for their slideshow. Have a great weekend, there is LOTS to do with the Grabil Fair and the West Central Home Tour going on this weekend. Have fun!!

This is making me tweak out about my lil girl growing up. Will we be going through this soon? What is happening to our babies, they aren’t supposed to grow up. As always, thanks for the heads up, I will mentally prepare myself.

I just wanted to drop a line and let you know how much your photos inspire me – I love them! I’m a Swedish photo amateur and nowhere near you when it comes to photo skills, but your photos really speak to me, so I keep coming back for ideas and inspiration!

I actually spent one year in Bloomington, Indiana:) So who knows, one of these days I might come back to Indiana and book a session for my family:)

Here’s the deal… from my experience. I have two kids (20 months apart in age). When my oldest does new things (pre-K, Kind, Middle School) it’s exciting! As parents, we’re on the journey with her. It’s all new to us too. With our youngest… every milestone is so emotional (and deep down… sad). So… there’s the truth and now you know. 😉

AND… we never did break down to buy the jogging stroller (we had three other kinds instead) but looking back we SHOULD have just got the double jogger and been done with it. 🙂 Better late than never!

He looks like he’s having so much fun! I can’t decide if I’ll be sad this week either. I agree, when they are having so much fun and you know they are enjoying themselves and learning it’s hard not to be proud instead of sad. We’ll compare notes this week to see if we both make it tear free! 🙂

Preschool is so exciting! He is going to be the class genius! Let me in on that jogging stroller, i want a nice one so bad. Oh, and Miles will never be too old to sit on your lap. My brother sat on my mom’s lap until he was 19. Mothers and sons always have that special bond!
