blank slate!

Since this is a totally random post, I figured I would throw this photo on here of me as I haven’t shown my face in a while. John took it at our last shoot last week. It was a business portrait shoot, so I sat in to test the light. I LUV that necklace! It goes so well with my Canon camera strap.

I took a test shot of John that is adorable, but I’ll save it for sometime when I want to gush about him. : )

Though he does deserve some gushing tonight. He helped me with a big project this weekend. Our kitchen has been CRAMPED with our gross dog cage (yes, we had a dog cage in our dining room that has driven me insane for years) and this big wine cabinet that was really cramping us all once we added a highchair and roaming baby to the mix. I have been itching to put some nice big prints up too, so I wanted to clear some space.

So, at around 9 PM on Saturday night (it’s so “me” to start a project that late at night) I decided to empty the 8 million items out of the wine cabinet and have John move it to our living room for us. The thing is verrrry heavy. I also took everything down that we already had up (wasn’t much!) so I could start over fresh.

Sooooo, I have these awesome BLANK walls that I am working on filling with some BIG prints. I figure if I’m going to help people fill their homes with photos, I need to be able to do the same. So I’m posting these to hold myself accountable to get this project done.

Here’s our blank slate living room….

Room

Who is that little guy smiling at me in the corner? We love you Miles!

We do have some stuff up on our mantle:

Room 2

So our living room is red, but our kitchen? Well, that’s another story. Builder’s beige on the wall (I got pregnant about 2 days after we moved in, so not much has gotten done decorating wise in this house. I was too nauseas and once Miles was born….well, who has time to decorate with everything going on?)

Our kitchen is white and vintage S.Steel. So we need some color! The possibilities are endless. I’m not talking paint though. Are you crazy? We work allll the time when we aren’t loving on our little guy and we love it, but there would be no time for us to paint. So I’m talking about adding color via photos or art. So please don’t email me paint color ideas. It’s not gonna happen. At least not until I get my bedroom and bathroom painted and that will be a miracle for that to happen. (Truth be told, John and I are SUPER fastidious painters. We take FOREVER to paint a room, so we are always afraid to even start a painting project. It’s ridiculous.)

Room 3

Here’s the dog cage-free dining room! yippee!! (The dog cage is now in that useless under the stair space perfect for cramming stuff you really don’t want to look at. i.e. really bulky children’s toys get crammed in there when guests come. Opps, my secret is out now!)

Room 4

There is sooooo much more room in there now! We can now chase Miles around the table without having to flatten ourselves between the wine cabinet and the kitchen table. Yippeee!

Room 5

So my task now is to decide what prints I want to blow up super big and if I want to do a gallery wraps, framed prints or what. I’m trying to do this while also focusing on our client’s photos too, so you can imagine who gets more attention. (it’s not us!) So I’m hoping these empty walls staring at me everyday will keep me motivated to get them filled so we can really put some more life into our space and enjoy it on a whole new level.

So feel free to comment or email me some inspiration. Honestly though, I’m going to be digging into our own collection of photos and of Bobbi + Mike’s. Sometimes having THIS blank of a canvas can seem daunting, but it just means it will be that much more exciting when it’s all done.

Oh, and along this same subject, check out my friend Gail’s blog, and a recent make over she did at her house. LOVE IT!

Ok, I HAVE to get to work. Blogging is such source of delicious procrastination for me.

I’ll get some more pics of Miles on here soon. He’s been such a giggly little guy even though he’s cutting teeth two at a time. We think he’s the happiest kid in the world! Such a sweetie!!!

Ahh.. you are so stinkin’ cute! And thanks for the shout-out on the blog. I had to give blood this morning and was coming in to work feeling all crummy so it was a nice little pick-me-up to get such a sweet mention.

And you are SO not going to believe this — you know those stainless steel canisters you have? Nick and I had those EXACT SAME ONES!!!!!!!!!!!!! We bought 3 of them a few years back at an antique shop for OUR retro kitchen, but I could never find the flour one. I think, sadly, they may have gotten sold in a garage sale we had last year. But as soon as I saw them, I was like, “GET OUT!” Too funny …. 🙂

OMG – now that I look at that photo of your dining room — if that’s a Crate and Barrel bowl – we have that SAME SET too!!! AHHHHHHHHHH I am cracking up!!!

well, i don’ have any of the same kitchen items that you do. 🙂 but your house looks so different every time i see it!! i’m sure you will find the picture prints to put up–you have such a fantastic visual eye, you and john both do. you’ll decide on something amazing! i love your minimally-painted walls; it’s very zen. 🙂

and that picture of you is be-au-ti-ful! that necklace goes so well with your eyes!! love it!

yeah – get those prints up, now the tricky part is which ones!!! good luck, the layout looks great – ya know, if you don’t want to paint the whole wall you could do something similar, like the square in miles room – just an idea ;o) good luck- what fun it will be to do!

Good for you for taking initiative and starting a project. You will have to post pics once you are finished and you have your big prints up. Also, your eyes look so cool in that top photo! Cassie is right…the necklace looks very cool with your eyes!

Wow, you’re really gorgeous! What beautiful eyes. And who do you remind me of? Hmm… oh, now I know it – it’s Miles! 🙂

I look forward to seeing more from your kitchen make over. Projects are fun! When they’re done! Good luck!!

Okay, I am restraining myself from suggesting paint colors ;). But here’s an idea for you – trade labor with a painter! My husband is a painter (unfortunately in california) and I would LUV IT if a photographer offered her services in exchange for painting work. Can’t wait to see what photos you put on the walls. I’m always unsure about where it’s appropriate to put “people” photos…. Have fun!

  • […] anybody remember this post? It was about how I took everything off my walls to get some new stuff hung? Well, over the weekend […]
