dog birthdays: great excuse to throw a party

Ok, so I’ve already mentioned people thinking we are nuts because of how much we love our pugs. Well, include my entire family in on that because everybody in my family LOVES the pugs. BIG TIME. So much so, that it’s completely normal that when July 13th rolls around, nobody flinches when they get invited to a party celebrating Whisper and Stamp’s birthday party. I also thought it would be something super fun for Miles to do, which it totally was.

Now, I haven’t done a birthday party for the pugs in years, but this year I wanted an excuse to get the family over before the baby comes and of course, order myself a big ‘ol fancy cake, large enough for left overs. And that’s exactly what I did! They turned 9 this year and I suppose a party for their 10th birthday next summer would be more appropriate, but I think next year I’ll be busy throwing a party for a one year old! (Crazy thought!)

I snapped some super fast photos of the festivities to share, with a little iphone action to get things started with the cake:

Pugcake

I had a last minute call on Monday into Halls Takes the Cake for just a simple cake. Yes, I had to tell them this was for a dog’s party and she said they get that order all the time. Or at least she was kind and told me that. Oh and yea, this is “just a simple cake.” As I was telling John how over the top the cake was he goes, “Oh, you know you love it.” Yea, he’s right. I thought it was very sweet they added the dog bones without me even asking. They even decorated the side with them. Miles was intrigued. Oh and yes, it was YUMMY.

Miles had a lot of fun picking out the plates for the party, blowing out the candles and of course helping the pugs open their gifts. The party consisted of my family that is here in town, Andy’s family and my parents, plus my niece.

Whisper is the smooshiest thing ever. Sometimes we call her the invertebrate pug. She’s so squishy, she sometimes feels positively boneless. She shows her age the most, with her grey face and slower pace. It breaks our hearts, but we just tell ourselves that she’s just more mellow, not getting older.

Holdwhisper

The pugs seriously open gifts. We honestly wouldn’t throw a party like this if the dogs didn’t play along. We say that Stamp has the Benjamin Button disease. She just gets more and more playful the older she gets. We LOVE that, of course.

Whisper definitely was wore out by the end of the day. Stamp? Well she played in the pool for hours while we all chatted and long after our guests had left. I had my camera put away, so no pics of her playing in the pool, but it was fun showing the family her new interest in swimming, after all of these years of her seemingly hating water.

Whisperyawn

It’s great to have a family quirky enough to go along with a pug birthday party and of course it’s so awesome to have two pugs as great as Whisper & Stamp.

Betsy – I am in love with how much you love your dogs. I feel completely the same way about my 2 doggies even though I may have veered my affection more towards my 10month old lately. Although both my dogs still snuggle with my under the covers every night.. so they are just fine haha. Thanks for loving your doggies soo much! They deserve it!

Terribly cute. It just reminds me of how much I want a dog. I don’t think us people with cats could pull this off- especially at the bakery:)

Too cute! I’m so honored that I share a birthday with your pugs! 🙂 ‘Always enjoy your blog- and I’m thinking of you as you reach the home-stretch with the pregnancy. All the best!

Happy Birthday, Whisper & Stamp!! p.s., that’s a good looking cake you got there, Betsy! If there is any left over and you have a spare tupperware container lying around I could probably take it off your hands. You know…. if it was taking up too much room in the fridge or you need to make space for King 2.0 (not in the fridge). Just sayin’, I’m available for cake surplus disposal…

That’s the best dog party ever! That cake is gorgeous! It’s better then the cake I get for my birthday, a DQ ice cream cake with a picture of my dogs on it. Cheesy. I don’t even like ice cream cakes that much, I’d prefer carrot but no one else really does. Typical mom. Anyway, I love that you love your dogs like little fur kids, we do too.

Happy Birthday to Whisper and Stamp! Throwing a dog party is not nutty at all (at least we don’t think so either). Any excuse to bring family together is a good excuse. Besides, those babies are part of the family, just in a slightly different manner. I remember when you first got them, what a true blessing they have been in your life!
