figuring out curls

It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of my curly hair. However, as I watch my children become little mirrors of me roaming this world I’m trying my best to be kinder to myself and learn to embrace my physical attributes. After all, my little blondie may grow to have my wild, crazy hair and if she does, I don’t want her walking around with my echos of hair hate bellowing through her ears.

So in an attempt to work WITH my hair, I tried something new. (This experiment is thanks, in large part, to my pixie styled friend Erin who lent me her treasure trove of no longer needed hair clips and do-dads.)

Hair

I twisted my wet hair into a five million little twisted sections and wore it all day letting it air dry. (I actually got a ton of compliments on that style. Who would guess that?)

Then later that evening I pulled them all out, tossled my hair with my hands and got the thickest nest of crazy hair ever. I was like, “Oh God, what have I done?”

So I grabbed it all, shoved it on the top of my head and started pinching tiny clips into a bun at the top of my head until I got the end result. Wallah! Hair that would make Marge Simpson jealous.

So I’m embracing the crazy curls pinned on top my head lately. You like? Or should I unearth the straightening iron again?

Oh and I realize that Jocelyn, or heck, even Miles, might still hate their hair when they are sixteen. If they do, I want it to be their own dislike, not something they learned from me. (They will learn plenty of other bad habits!)

It’s been a weird week of dodging John’s flu (so far the kids and I are unscathed. Crossing fingers!) and preparing for everything fall brings. Needless to say, my hair hasn’t been the only crazy thing around here!

I Love it all I so wish for curly hair. My daughter has sweet lil baby ringlets and I refuse to cut them even a bit. My husband is worried we will have a situation like the movie tangled by the time she is 18!!

I saw these pics of your hair when you posted it on twitter, and I’m a HUGE fan! I have crazy curly hair too, so I’m excited to try this now 🙂

I’m a fan of your normal curly hair but of course I’m a stick straight haired person (that sounds weird!) … I’m embracing my natural hair and have decided not to try and defy gravity and flip it up anymore and going for assymetrical bob. You’re last do looks a little Bride of Frankenstein and your facial expression cracks me up! 🙂 Have you seen the blog of Lisa Leonard? I love her curls, too. http://www.lisaleonardonline.com/blog/family/david/what-i-wore-wednesday-51 P.S. good for you in trying to watch how you talk about your hair in front of the kiddos, too. Blessings.

I have short hair, this will never work for me but I’ve shared it with my friends and they said it worked. Might be worth a try.

I am trying to embrace my curls too. Some days I love them…other days “grrrr” I wish I was straight. This works some times for me: twist pieces of damp hair around finger. It wraps your curls into the same direction. Add product. When dry, wrap any funky pieces of hair around a small barrel curling iron (on outside). I hold my curling iron upside down and wrap from the root down and leave off the end of the iron. Separate curls a little.

P.S. I always love the pictures of you with curly hair
