grocery find: living lettuce

Perhaps the whole world already knows about this, but I have discovered something pretty cool in the produce section. It’s called Living Lettuce. You see, no amount of salad spinning and proper storage ever assured us that we would use up an entire head of lettuce before it got all soggy and gross. Or I would just plain forgot to check and would just buy a new head of lettuce assuming it went bad. (Yes, I’m a terrible grocery list maker.) Well, enter Living Lettuce.

Wow, if you are still reading what could quite possibly be the world’s most boring paragraph, you amaze me with your attention span. Really, you do! Ok, let’s look at this miraculous lettuce:

So it’s hydroponically grown and they leave the roots attached. That way you can let it sit in a little well of water and it can drink away while you pick from it daily, getting crunchy fresh leaves until the last leaf is picked. (How very Harry Potter-esque.) Here is our living lettuce, ONE WEEK after we bought it, still crunchy and fresh.

Oh and the price is a plus too.

So that’s my latest find while at the grocery store. I haven’t been awarded a year’s supply of lettuce for blogging it or anything, I just found a little gem amongst the boring-ness that is my weekly least favorite chore and thought I would share it with you.

Oh and since we are talking about grocery shopping, the bane of my existence, here’s me and my kiddos on a recent outing.

Can I just say, that one of my favorite things about life with a baby is all the smiles you get when you wear a baby in a carrier? Except it is a buzz kill when someone asks, “Aren’t you afraid your baby will die in that thing? She looks like she can’t breath!” Yea, that’s not so much fun. But anyway, Jocelyn and her cute fluffy pink boots and polka dotted leg warmers always gets smiles and it reminds me to be in the moment. I do have to give Miles credit BIG TIME as well because he is a really good grocery store helper. He got his daddy’s patience, which is a wonderful thing.

One more iphone pic for the road:

PS Yes, I am inflicting my addiction to the color grey on my baby girl. (Hand me down from brother bear, actually.) It’s my favorite neutral ever but I can’t break out of the box and wear much else.

Have a great weekend folks!

I have heard of such things, but never seen, nor purchased. I will be looking in my Markets of Meijer early next week! Thanks!

Oooo, I need to find this wonderful lettuce.

And I’m pretty sure 80% of my wardrobe is black or grey.

I read somewhere that when people make comments like the baby carrier one, you say “Thank you for caring” and smile and walk away. When we would take the kids out in the bike trailer, we would get comments from drivers. And then again when we got the trail-a-bike. Some people.
