our perfect valentine’s weekend of nothing

After what has felt like months and months of every weekend tied up with crazy scheduled weekends, this weekend before Valentine’s day was blissfully free of social engagements. We had a bit of a nutty week, so we ended up going out to eat for dinner three times this week to pretty nice restaurants and out to lunch once. We usually try to only eat out once a week, so I figured that was our Valentine’s splurge. Otherwise, we laid low and just CHILLED this weekend. It felt amazing. We had a million things we could have done around the house (not to mention the thank you notes Miles and I need to write for his birthday) but we set ourselves free from obligation and just enjoyed ourselves and each other.

John and I ended the weekend just feeling so in love with our little family and not worn out like we usually do. I guess it wasn’t the most romantic weekend for John and I, but it’s intimacy in another way. John just kept saying tonight over and over, as we were wrapping up our evening, “I just love our family so much.” I can tell he really needed this weekend and it was good for his soul. I think he’s wired for more peace and quiet then we sometimes get, so this weekend of nothing was all the Valentine’s gift I think he needed.

So Happy Valentine’s day to you. Even if it’s not all roses and romantic candle lit dinners, perhaps you can find beauty and love in the sweetness and comfort of everyday. We sure did this weekend.

Before I head to bed, I’m leaving you with sweet Jocelyn and her perfect lashes peering out from in between the slates in her crib.

We had a lazy, hanging around the house weekend. And then last night, instead of going out, we had everyone’s favourite smoked bbq ribs, tots and salad and it was a huge hit. That baby of yours is so sweet!
