it’s here!

The Ikea 2009 catalog is here! Oh man, I need a rainy saturday, Miles down for a nap, some blackberry sage tea and I’m GOOD TO GO with some one on one time with this baby.

I know, I know, I’m the last of my friends that hasn’t outgrown Ikea yet. Not sure I ever will. Oh Ikea, how I love you so….and I’m not afraid to say it!

I still don’t have client work I can release yet, but I assure you, I’ve been busy working. I’ve been working on creating business forms and some legal paperwork stuff, which is new for me. I was never the girl in school to set up folders all around my desk to make sure nobody was cheating off me and I usually was the kid that didn’t have their permission slip signed. So though I have developed a bit of “rule following” along the way in some aspects of my life, I’m more laid back & a follower of the “whatever….” school of thought. My biggest goal right now is not to let all the boring paperwork suck my creativity out of me. So far so good. Thankfully my inner artist that has been snoozing on balancing my checkbook all these years (somewhere John has just snorted milk out of his nose laughing at the thought of me ever balancing a checkbook) has been itching to come out and play so I think I’m good on the creativity for a while. Thankfully John handles all the tax and invoice stuff. I probably would be sucked dry (and in jail) if I handled all that. Thank God for John, for so many reasons. 😉

I did take a break to shoot a bit of Miles today before his morning nap. He was modeling a handmade hat made by the very sweet (and funny) Lori of Sarah Jane’s Yarn Shoppe. I had a project I was shooting some marketing photos for and Miles was modeling the product and it was getting a little cold out and I wanted some color pop and texture to add to the photos. So I emailed Lori at the yarn shop to see if she had any cute sample hats I could borrow for the shoot. Well she took it one step further and offered to knit Miles a custom made hat to match the product’s colors! So are you getting how sweet Lori is? Oh, and by the way, I had never met her before. Just over email and from a bit of blog love I gave her from a random pop in. Oh, and can I mention she knitted it in one evening? Ok, how amazing is that! The hat went back to the shop today and they will soon have a print in the store of Miles to show it off. So go check it out and sign up for a class. It is the cutest place. If I wasn’t attached to my Mac on a permanent basis I would be there knitting while Miles obsessively pulled the yarn balls off the shelves every day. (Oh how I miss knitting. Perhaps this winter I can jump back in. I’m dying to make some fingerless gloves for shooting.) You’ll be seeing more of this hat maker as I’m shooting her family this fall.

Since I have to get to bed (Kindermusic in the morning and then a HUGE shoot in the afternoon!) here’s a sneak peek of Miles in his hat. It’s very Dr.Suess meets Colorado ski lodge, don’t you think? Sooooo cute!

What? We’re supposed to outgrow IKEA?!? This is news to me, I was just there yesterday buying all sorts of new baby props! Where else can you get rockin’ baskets for $6, lambies for $20 and funky textile prints for $7 a yard? I am a sucker for their “food court” too. I left my oldest two in the playplace for the first time… it was heaven! Long live IKEA! Cheap food and free child care!

I too love Ikea but wish they would allow their loyal customers to place orders online. What can we do about this dilemma?!

I have a mini van with removable seats and $250 Andy doesn’t know about. When’s the road trip and shall we do Chicago or Cincy? 🙂
