so how did you meet Cassie?

So is anyone confused? I shot my first wedding…but I don’t shoot weddings. I don’t have any wedding pricing on my website and I’m not currently accepting wedding bookings. (Thank you to the kind souls who have inquired though, most likely confused at all the engagement shots I have been posting.) So enjoy the photos, but know that this was a special project only for a very special couple.

So I figured since I’m not a wedding photographer, I should explain how I know Cassie and how this all came to be.

Well, it all started years ago when Cassie was a little girl and my dear friend Amy Conner knew her from church and would babysit for her. As the years went on, little miss Cassie ended up being on a middle school cheerleading squad I coached. Oh my goodness those girls were so much fun! Oh the tears when that year was over. Good times…

Fast forward to last summer. Amy Conner was home for the summer and hand picked a super cool group of women in Fort Wayne to hold a bible study. I’m not much of a bible study person. I can’t ever stay up on the reading and I have never found one that truly jived with me. Well, Amy assured me that this wasn’t a typical bible study. Are you kidding me? Uh, no, it wasn’t. We met every Thursday at 9 PM and we would literally sit around until 1 AM having the most amazing conversations. We all came from different places in our lives and we all fed each other in a different way. I got to know Cassie as a mature woman last summer and as a friend. (I hadn’t seen her since her days on my squad.) Becoming reacquainted with her has been such a gift.

Some of you may not have seen this, but Amy and Cassie together held a dedication service for Miles at my home last summer. The link to the video is in this post. I just watched it again and I just LOVE the song that Cassie wrote and sang. It’s a hard video to watch though because my sister was there and in the photos. Jason came too and immediately I could tell what a loving and sensitive man he was. After we heard her sing and she had my whole family in tears, I insisted she come over and have John record her. I finally got her over around Christmas to record an album as a gift for her family. Then, I shot a little album cover for her and eventually she was a model for that Matilda Jane project I did. When I lost my sister this past January, after the funeral was over and I felt nothing but drained and empty, I got up from my chair, turned around and standing in the back, was this tiny little girl in an adorable hat standing against the back wall looking right at me. Cassie had come all by herself to support me. So as you can see, for the past year, Cassie and Jason have been intertwined in my life and I have Amy to thank for that.

So, before I post the wedding shots once the collection starts to come together, here’s miss Amy and Mrs. Cassie. Two of the coolest chicks I know.

…and Amy, who has this amazing way of slowing things down to remember to bring it in and take a moment to pray at the perfect times, did just that right before it was time to leave for the ceremony. Can you believe those beautiful flowers? The handkerchief wrapped around the stems is from her grandmother who carried it on her wedding day. That bracelet you see was worn by Cassie’s mom on her wedding day, so everything that Cassie chose that day was very meaningful to her and her family. Sooooo precious.

I noticed that the newlyweds themselves have been logging on to my blog during their honeymoon, so I can’t leave them out of this post. I picked this one to give you guys an idea of the feel of their wedding and to show you how beautiful of a day it was. Cassie & Jason, this one’s for you!! Now get off the computer you too and back to your honeymoon!!!!

These are BEAUTIFUL Betsy!!! But seeing Cassie does make me feel really old…she was in my first class I ever taught back when Carroll Middle was at the Freshman Campus. I thought she was a AWESOME girl then. There was no doubt that she’s turn into an AMAZING young woman… and she has!! So glad you’ve kept me up-to-date with her life!!
