this post is as late as our cards were

I know it’s the first week in January and Christmas is starting to be a long lost memory. However, it’s going to be showing up on our Credit card statements pretty soon so we might as well keep talking about it, right? I wanted to share the Christmas cards we sent out this year. Though I felt a little narcissistic sending out an 8 sided card with photos of us on it, there was NO way we would pick just one photo from our awesomely fun shoot with Bobbi + Mike. (Not even Bobbi herself could pick just one.)

We really didn’t have a lot of time to design our card between wrapping up 2008 and packing for our trip to SC to see John’s parents. However, I wanted to at least try to do something unique. Since I loved the hat Miles as wearing during our shoot, I decided to design the card around it. So we matched up the colors in the hat’s stripes, created them in PhotoShop and then found a knit texture on the net that matched the size of the knit in his hat to give the card that knitted look. I’m wondering if anybody caught on that the message part of the card was supposed to look like the knitted hat. We were hoping the knit wasn’t too subtle to not be noticed. As I was trying to figure out our message I was listening to Christmas music. I just started grabbing quotes from Christmas songs that related to us and that’s where the wording came from.

The card was an 8 sided accordion style and here’s the front, or at least what you saw when you pulled it out of the envelope.

Then as you open it up, this is supposed to be the first second message you see.

Though there were 8 sides, so who knows if it was read in the right order!

Here’s the back…which is kind of the front too. Designing this card was kind of mind numbing. My brain hurt trying to figure out how it folded so it would open correctly. (After struggling with photographing this folded up card I got out Miles’ new easel he got for Christmas. Perfect to hold it in place!)

A HUGE thank you goes out to Bobbi + Mike for doing such a beautiful job on our family shoot yet again this year. I am just IN LOVE with these photos!!!!

I LOVE your card! Just wondering where you had it printed! Is it a linen stock? Did they fold them+score them or did you have to do that? I just love it!

Very, very cute and fun! I love it! The quotes from the Christmas songs are really sweet and very fitting with the pics too. =)

I didn’t even feign to think about sending out cards this year, eeek! Maybe someday I’ll feel creative and motivated at the same time, and that time will be around the holidays. HAHAHA.

it was a very cute card indeed – i am ashamed to say i did notice the knit pattern, but didn’t connect the dots with the hat – but it makes sense now… where did you get it printed btw – the quality was great.

I loved your card….and since I knew how much you loved the striped hat, I caught on to the “theme” on the front cover pretty quick. 🙂 We did the same card last year, and when I went to do a different one this yr, I couldn’t. (You will see soon enough for yourself.) It is such a cool layout!

I noticed the knit!!!! Girl, you crack me up. “Didn’t have much time to put cards together”…and then you come up with this AWESOME design! The only other Xmas card in our dining room that’s gotten as many comments as yours is Bobbi+Mike’s!!! The pressure is on for next year now, you know that right? 🙂
