carly & chad’s family session

I snuck away to the studio, a huge rarity these days, to photograph this beautiful little girl who just happens to be just a month younger than Jocelyn. Being on my family leave is very important to my family right now, but it’s also nice to get out and shoot a little too. I feel so blessed that the couple of opportunities I have gotten to shoot this year have been so fulfilling for me. (and hopefully just as awesome for my subjects as well!)

Here’s a little sneak peek of the fun afternoon we had playing in the studio. By the way, the stuffed animal was made by her mom, Carly, and she’s made MANY, including an adorable little mouse for Miles one day when we were having a bummer of a week. So sweet, right? This photo is just so soft and pink and squishy, I just love it!

This family is so gorgeous, they are the family that should go in the picture frame you buy. You just wait till you see more, you’ll agree. Sorry Dad, we’ll get more of you in the next blost post! With those beautiful girls around, I’m sure you are used to sharing the spotlight, right?

I shared with Carly a while ago my opinion about the best time for a baby portrait. I say invest in photos when babies are in that magic six-eight month age. They are usually sitting up and not too mobile yet and also pretty easy to impress and get smiles out of. Lots of people put an emphasis on getting one year photos, but I feel like that is a really over rated age. One year olds are on their own mission and it rarely aligns with what parents have in mind, plus they are aren’t usually ones to want to smile for the camera. So she took my advice and as you can see, we totally captured her sweetheart at the perfect time. Yay!

PS Her diaper is a G Diaper. Those are super cute, almost as cute as this little punkin.

Love the fuzzy hair! Reminds me of Jon when he was a baby. I will second the 8-9month pictures -the BEST pictures I have of my kids are at that age. I remember the tears (mine) trying to get my kids to sit still for a picture at one. Luckily I figured it out by the third and didn’t even bother. Beautiful little girl – beautiful family.

after shooting a double one year old session this past weekend (along with their respective siblings who are 12 and 18 months older) i TOTALLY feel you. i’d been fairly lucky so far with my one year olds, but this session took the cake. i love the 6-8 month range SO much better.

I love them already! How will I decide which ones to print!?! They are all fabulous shots! I think I’ll just have to have a gallery of your work covering the entire wall.

I couldn’t agree more with your age assessment. In fact, I’d even stretch it from 6-10 months. I’d almost encourage TWO shoots during that time and then skip the one-year. You’re so right, one-year seems to be over-rated. Adorable shots. So glad you were able to channel some creativity.

I really like that second picture. She’s got that old-fashioned expression that just screams, “I hope this photographer forgets to have my parents sign a model release, because I’d love to own this studio.” Kids say the darnedest things!

Oh Chad…. Ha! Go figure I would forget to have a LAWYER sign my model release! Ha! That’s what you guys get for choosing a photographer who is on her maternity leave still. 😉
